Merry Christmas! / Happy Holidays!

Got a problem. Bought a SiriusXM portable car kit that plugs into cig lighter and AUX port. I get horrible alternator whine

Tried the USB power connector (to cig lighter) and still the same. Then I tried to power it via a portable USB power pack....Walla! Cristal clear sound :drummer:

What is the deal with this? Although this using a USB powerpack works, its far from ideal. What coulds be causing this and how to fix it??

Any thoughts help

My 06 does this as well. I doubt it's a ground loop, and more likely just needs a filter. I think powerwerx.com sells filters you could put inline.

It has something to do with direct connections between the power port and the stereo (even my upgraded scion stereo), I can charge with the power outlet and avoid the noise by connecting via bluetooth, but if I use the headphone jack to aux port, I get the whine.

I had the same problem in my 2008 when I added a simple Bluetooth kit that fed into the Aux port. Annoyed me for over a year until a buddy told me about the filters (as mentioned above). I went with this one and problem solved. It might change the sound quality ever so slightly, I haven't decided yet, but still way better than the hum. Cheap and worth a shot.

the abs pump will do it as well. i get the same sound in my cb. what i do for my radio bluetooth adapter is use the 110v in the console and it does not have any problems

its the aux port, the wire that is from the plug, down in the center console to the radio. i prefer to rewire the line and use a shield cable. i forgot the color code, but if you look for the metra steering wheel adapter plug, it will show you what is the left and right.
