Group 31 Cable Extensions

I have seen many people put in Group 31 batteries with a variety of methods of extending the factory cable to the battery posts. Some, in my opinion are questionable yet creative, some interesting. I have a friend that has a 200 Series that sent me a pic of extenders he got with a Slee kit, and they appear to be the same situation as a 5th Gen. On Slee's site, there are not listed as an individual piece, but are included with the kit. Slee can sell them as a seperate item at a fair price. Just ordered a set today.

I will post up when installed.

Get a 27F, just about same capacity and fits like factory with 4th gen battery tray.

So, do you have pics of this? Slee Off Road now sells these completely separate for $50... I'm interested in your experience with them...

I have a group 31 odyssey battery and the cables don't reach. I would be interested to see if the slee or SDHQ extensions would be long enough.

Yeah, I would prefer to extend the terminal itself and have the option of extra bolts for separating connections like my winch and other accessories. ...and yes, I know the Group 31 has a separate set of terminal for just such a thing.

However, the idea of rebuilding my cables (and buying a cable end press or crimping tool to make the connections) doesn't intrigue me for 3 reasons:

  1. The stock cables are fine unless I am planning to go to "The Big 3" Upgrade + a larger amperage alternator - which I do not need since I will be running longer distances than most and utilizing an external charger at home.
  2. The Stock Cables for the primary/starting power are made well enough to support the systems of the truck without chaffing or rubbing on bare metal. Therefore, they should last a very long time.
  3. I see myself making cables, messing it up at least twice, buying more cables, finally getting it correct on the 4th try, and never using the crimping tool ever again. :(

I'm not saying this isn't an option, but what is wrong with the stock cables? Mine have no visible corrosion...

One thing to note, with the above terminal solutions I would be able to bolt on more power leads without increasing the height of the connections (towards to hood)? I'm also looking at ways to ensure that the positive power leads are protected from shorting out agains the body, frame, hood, or any other "ground plane".

In the end, it looks like getting a mil-spec terminal, and some of these cables may be the best option.

...still curious about the experiences with the Slee Off Road Terminal Extensions...

I do not believe I have any pictures of them. Totally worth it and easy to install. In, I believe, the positive cable, I had to bend the 90° tab to flatten it with a pair of plyers. I am looking to get them again when I upgrade the battery in my Tundra

Definitely putting this in my list of options. Unfortunately, I may have waited too long now, and the downtime of the 4Runner may require me to do something more immediate. Gonna try to get it figured out today after work.

Nothing wrong with the stock cables. I prefer to keep the stock cables and post clamps if I can. I used a couple of these "shorty" cables to just extend my stock cables long enough to reach the threaded posts on my 31m battery. It just seemed easier, faster and cheaper to me. I try to use the threaded post as much as possible.

I never seem to have good luck with those replacement clamped over the post style connectors. They seem soft and I can never get a semi-permanent connection with them that last more than a few months before I'm messing with it again because it's loose. Although I've never tried the Slee or SDHQ versions because I'm a cheap b@stard, I just can't get over the price. I am sure they will work great.

I know some people refuse to use the threaded posts for some reason and I've never had an issue. But, now that I am rereading the OP, no one mentioned they had a 31m or threaded posts, so I might be a little off topic. Sorry about that.

I was just trying to provide another option/point of view. No worries.

so i installed the slee extensions with a odyssey group 31 today. The extensions are worth it. It makes the drop in plug and play. I would have saved money by buying the slee in the first place, vs. buying connectors, wires, terminals, shrink tape, and tape.

The slee also gives you alot of adjustability (angles) and allows you to add as many accessories as you want without disconnecting the battery. It's also rock solid once tightened down.

its well designed and worth its price.
