Group buy : DC power Engineering 270amp alternator

Just wanted to say I've been using the same DC power alternator on my 3rd gen's for the last 7 years or so. It has been in 3 different 4runners of mine over the years and still performs perfectly. I'm running an isolated dual battery setup powering extra lights, winch, air compressor, and large sound system. Great product.

Any ideas how to get a higher voltage out of the system to charge different battery chemistries that need it to get a full charge? I am very interested in getting a higher output alternator but only if I can figure out how to increase charging voltage. If it's been discussed before, sorry, I haven't done any research on the subject.

Great work man, excellent contribution.

rigtec gets to confirm the following statements, but your voltage essentially won't change. The part that matters is the availability of amps. Most charging system aim for around 40 amps (like battery tenders etc). This alternator provides about 140 amps over stock, so regardless of what lights, fridges etc you are running, you will have plenty of amperage available to properly charge the battery (or batteries) at the optimal rate.

Not an electrician, but thats how my layman brain understands it.

G'day Okki and forum team...

Anyone can see that there are many of our members that are very serious about grabbing one of these 270 amp alternators as soon as possible! I called NS&A yesterday and spoke to a gentleman by the name of'Seth' who seemed more than willing to I"Sweeten the pot" as I explained that I am the forum mascot; or "guinea pig" (as the case may be), and have installed the XP Series alternator on my 2012 4Runner limited almost three years ago with NO TROUBLE what so ever!

I also explained to the gentleman that the savings percentage projection of 7 percent worked to something like $20 bucks for us; which doesn't even cover the cost of the S&H ($25 bucks). I also asked him if he (NS&A) had ever participated in a group buy before now and he said that he had. My reply to his answer was, that he should know that $20 dollars won't even satisfy the effort taken to organize a group buy, nor would it justify anyone's getting involved in this thing 'At a hardship' ONLY because they couldn't afford to pass up an opportunity, which he said he understood!

Knowing that NS&A is in business for one reason... to move product, I suggested they offer us a realistic incentive package like... a 20% reduction when 20 people participate ($487), or a 25% cost discount when 25 of our members sign up ($456) and we'll fork over our own S&H ($25)! If they're not willing to make it worth our while to organize the group, then no one that was signing up because of the immediate savings offer has reason to buy one now! Seth seemed very interested in doing something like that; it's not everyday that he sells 25 units all at once on an ongoing basis!

Adam was supposed to call me this morning; he's the owner, but I haven't heard from him yet. Let me know what you think asap and I'll call them back. We may have to play hardball with them if they don't jump at the numbers... I do know others who build H.O. alternators, so get your game face on fellas, I say we play to win!

Cheers

Hi Keith,

Absolutely! You just order your 270XP with an EXTERNAL REGULATOR and set voltage output where you want it; just be very careful not to increase voltage too much to protect the electronics... If you're resetting voltage output to reassure (expedite) max battery charge you won't have to. With a constant 14.05 VDC at the B+ terminal and 200A at curbside idle (800 rpm), and close to 300A at (1500 rpm) i.e. 35 to 40 mph, you shouldn't ever find a dead battery caused by 'engine idle' starvation or an overheated, overloaded alternator!

Okay guys/gals (I hope there are a few gals signing up for this group-buy as well as the guys),

I called NS&A a few minutes ago and spoke to Seth (again). He promised to have his boss (Adam) call me before they close @5:00 (Mountain time?) Okki thank you so much for heading up this huge undertaking and very important operation; I can't believe the numbers on the list that you've accomplished in such a very short period of ^X. Forgot to mention: For those of you who are interested in having an (Adjustable) external voltage regulator, it is available!

But... this is not a 'Plug-and-play' option; as the manufacturer needs to integrate this regulator during the 'build-stage' at the factory! If you already have a 270-XP and would still like to have an external voltage regulator so that you can set your constant output voltage output, you can send your alternator to DC Power Engineering, and they'll put you up on the bench and install one for you; so it's never too late!

Okay one last thing... Some members here have expressed an interest in ordering 'THE BIG THREE' cables from NS&A right along with your 270-XP... perhaps not the best idea. NS&A is asking $104.95 for their 2 wire cable kit. https://www.dcpowerinc.com/cable-kits/universal-big-3-1-0-oxygen-free-copper-charge-cable-kit.html  I picked up my Three wire 4ga x 19 inches copper cables from auto-Zone for about $12 bucks each; $8 bucks each on amazon... NO Brainer! :nerd: Super Start 19" Long 4 GA Switch to Starter or Stud to Stud Battery Cable | eBay

Cheers, rig

I'm not a rocket surgeon, but with the insight and information provided here.....I think we can get a few more on board here.

curious on final numbers...but I'd like to put my name on the list if possible! Thanks!

Same here. Just seeing this now because previously subd to rigtec 's original thread.

Please put please put me down as tentative Okki - one man closer to 20.

Idling my truck didn't come close to charging my secondary with the fridge running non-stop at the beach earlier this month.

Thanks for organizing guys!

12 for sure and 8 tentative. 2 alternative paths are being explored in order to get the best deal. rigtec has been a great asset to this group buy. Sit tight everyone. Not as fast as I'd like, but good things are happening.

Thanks and have a great day!

I change my mind..I'm going to buy [emoji16][emoji16]

Well shit. If we're at 14 committed at this point, make me an even #15 @Okki

Thank you both again for all the behind the scenes haggling and coordination!
