Couple updates on both rigs...

Installed a 14" Magnaflow(thanks Hepar) on the 3rd Gen. Decided that I wanted a more aggressive exhaust note to go with my aggressive looking truck. I had the shop redo the tail pipe as well. They shortened it a bit and tucked it up pretty high under the bumper. I like the way it came out. The muffler is a tad loud for my taste, but it doesn't drone on the highway and that was what I was most concerned with.

And on the 5th Gen, I installed a set of BFG All Terrains. Stayed with the stock size and a load range C so the ride would stay plush and I wouldn't sacrifice any MPGs. I ended up finding 3 slightly used tires with only a couple thousand miles on them off a Tacoma World member for $300, and I purchased a new tire from Discount. Here's where the fun begins. They had to order the tire, so I waited a couple days and then took the rig in when it arrived. They accidentally ordered a load E tire. Not a big deal, but this was just the latest of several Discount Tire screw ups with me. I'm usually pretty understanding but this was my final straw so I decided to complain. I've been a Discount customer since I started driving pretty much and have spent a lot of hard earned money with them, so this was more of a stop screwing up so I don't have to find a new tire shop complaint, rather than a give me something free complaint. Discount stepped up and comped the new tire for me, so I was satisfied with that. They were able to get another one in that day, so I went back down there to have everything installed again. As soon as they were done and I pulled out of the lot, the TPS light came on. So I pulled right back in and they checked and filled the tires again and I left. Got home and pulled in the garage and I heard a tire leaking air. It was one of the slightly used tires, so my first thought was "****, that guy sold me a bad tire." I drove it back down there and told them and even though it was the used tire, they refunded me the original cost for the installation even though I said they didn't have to. So 15 minutes go by, and the Manager comes out and tells me they can't fix the tire! So now I'm really mad at the guy I bought them from but then Discount went even more above and beyond, ordered me another new tire and comped the cost on that as well! Discount redeemed themselves big time, even for something that wasn't their fault! I was very pleased and will continue to do business with them. So in the end, I have 2 brand new tires, and 2 almost new tires for $300. Not bad!

Anywho, I've had several sets of the KO AT's and I'm generally happy with them. I wanted to get the KO2's, but I came across this deal and couldn't pass it up.

Looking forward to weather getting nice and getting back outside. I just had back surgery, recovery is going well and in about a month I'll have the green light to start going HAM again. I have a Revtek spacer lift that I got for free that I'm going to install on the 5th gen as soon as I'm feeling up to it. Not an ideal setup, but this thing is pretty much a street queen as the 3rd Gen see's most of the off-road action. I have a P0171 code on the 3rd Gen that's annoying me along with less than satisfactory gas mileage. Replaced the front O2 sensor and that didn't fix the problem. I'm going to start to look for vacuum leaks. Other than that, it's ready for another season of adventure!

@ gsprunner, I really like your 3rd gen (well your 5th is sweet too...)! Love the way you've outfitted it. Perfect setup.

What brand / model of camera and lens do you use? You take some amazing pics.

Thanks

Durwin

Thanks man! My camera is a Nikon D40x with just the standard 35-85mm DX lens. Nothing special but it does the job.

Ive seen pics of your 3rd gen in the pic gallery and its one of my favorite rigs on here. definitely inspirational and if i ever get the chance, id love to build mine similar to yours. Great landscape shots too! Although im more of a canon guy...haha jk.

Thank you, appreciate the kind words! And you can't go wrong with Canon or Nikon! Would definitely like to step up my photography game.

Start with a full shot of the 5th gen's new kicks.

Also- the scan gauge reports a number different than my Trans temp gauge. I don't remember if it's more or less, but I'll tell you the difference later when I drive somewhere.

Thanks for reminding me, I still gotta get down there and get the last tire put on.

Interested in knowing about this too. I think I've read it reads higher than actual, but confirmation would be nice.

The difference in temperate appears to be almost exactly 10 degrees warmer. When my gauge reads 150 degrees (probe is right before the trans cooler, so I imagine that's the warmest point) the scan gauge is reading 160 degrees.

Thanks! Good to know, the highest I've ever seen my scangauge is 208* so I was still under 200* most likely so I'm safe.

I'm pretty happy with where it's at, but there's always more to do....

Isn't this the truth...

I was watching the gauges again today and realized that when the tranny is cold (under 100 degrees or so) they're much closer readings with the Scangauge only about 3 degrees off. From 120 degrees to 170 degrees it read 10 degrees higher though. I don't ever see over 170 unless it's HOT in the summer and I am going real slow.

Good to know. On very cold mornings here , like 20*, or so the transmission doesn't even get up to 95* on the interstate which kinda worries me too. I don't see over 180 ish unless I'm climbing a hill at a low speed where the torque converter won't lock, or it's searching for gears on the interstate at which point I just take it out of OD.

I just need to get a supercharger like you cool guys so I stop having to worry about power going up hills...

Went out to the Washington coast for the weekend for some exploring and relaxation. Dating back to last fall, I've been fighting some CEL demons and poor gas mileage. Swapped out the injectors and got rid of the P0300 codes, but still had a P0171 code. Couldn't find any vacuum leaks, and replaced to front o2 but that didn't alleviate the problem. I've also been having a warm start issue as well. So before we left I re-checked all vacuum lines again, and cleaned the throttle body and IAC, and reset the CEL. Didn't really look dirty and didn't seem to make much of a difference afterwards, but after this weekends trip and over 500 miles of driving, the CEL is off and I averaged over 18mpg. So I'm pretty happy about that and am hoping that whatever I did at least fixed that problem. Last summer on a 2500 mi round trip to Montana and back, I was getting barely 13 on the highway. Much better. Still have the warm start issue though. I'm suspecting maybe the fuel pump. Been wanting to upgrade the fuel pump anyway since I've supercharged it. So we shall try that next!

That's one nice looking Pointer! What happen to your roof rack? I also think I should have taken your advise with the Prinsu rack, and stayed away.
