Guidance on lubing my shaft

HaHa ok we all just laughed a bit there^

After putting 130k on my 4runner since 0'3 I just now managed to get the annoying driveline clunk :(

I never have, or I don't think anyone has ever greased all 6 zerks in many years.

The zerk fitting (B) in the image is my question for you guys... I literally have put probably 30 pumps of grease into that fitting on the rear shaft in the last 2 days and the grease never comes out of anywhere or leaks from the fitting, It seems like a lot for that one fitting. Could it just be that dry?? how will I know on that joint when to stop?

The other joints that are more inside and are a PIA to get too, I believe they are (A) in the image the spider joints, they took about 10 pumps each until the nasty old black grease came out and I saw my nice red synthetic oozing out behind it. That seemed normal to me, but almost 30 pumps for the one zerk already?

how much is too much?

Every thing I read in the Maint. sect. said till you hear joint expanding , guess it takes alot . Some of the earlier posts have guys doing it every wk (haha) till its stops . I know I've been trying to stay on top of it & checking on my days off (sun.) Still takes 8 to 10 pumps .

Exactly! You can easily hear the joints that are a PIA to get too popping when the grease comes out but the outer one on the surface of the shaft is ridiculous. One would think after 30 pumps of the gun something would happen at the joint or fitting. Forarms are getting tired after that long too LOL

Better not comment on forearms getting sore ladies present:jaw drop: but ya not a comfortable angle to do this , from what I gathered new shafts are sealed & I can't find out if their lexus or toyota ? One from lexus is like 4 + & Toy. is 270$ , not really having luck on the fix way past warranty . It's not to brutal once you get a handle on it .

I pumped lithium grease into fitting B on that diagram until grease started coming out from around the slip joint on my driveshaft. I still have the clunk when I stop at lights.

I think that if somebody drives one of these for a long time with the clunk, eventually it wears the splines and then nothing can save them. But that's just my guess.

I also wonder if the rear control arm bushings could be getting worn..because that will contribute to this clunk also.

Pump grease until you see the slip joint move. Two years ago when I got my '04 it took 50 pumps for that to happen. Once it does just grease it when you change your oil and use the same method of pumping until the slip yoke moves. Will not take nearly as much grease after the first time.
