Guitars?

Anyone play? Acoustic or electric or both? Gear? Style?
Personally, I've played for over 20 years. Strictly acoustic though. I collect high end guitars and play out occasionally. Big Taylor fan and I have a modest heard of them. I play mostly modern singer/ songwriter folky stuff with rock influences.

The last couple of years I've been really exploring open tunings and that has breathed a lot of life back into the guitar for me.

Very cool. And I'm right there with you. I'm really digging open tunings right now. Playing a lot of Ben Howard stuff in open C. DADGAD is always cool too.
I keep one guitar in one weird tuning or another all the time.

Yeah open c is cool. I've been dropping the e down to a d though. Similar to the tuning used by Page in "The Rain Song".

I'm just playing and writing a bunch of my own stuff now, but I'll check out the guy you referenced. I'm not familiar with him.

Another one I've been having lots of fun with is DADDAD. Those two middle D's let you create some very cool doubled chords. Sounds kind of 12 stringy. Plus, who doesn't love double D's!

I found a "free" Martin D-17 in a garage sale ($50) and play that.

On the other hand, I have 6 guitars I paid market value for as it has been a hobby since I was a teenager, but they're all relatively cheap minus my Custom 24.

Speaking of funky tunings, baritone setups are loads of fun when you get the "beef" in your hands to play them. My Telecaster is set up with 64-14 strings (have to order them) and tuned "standard" drop D (DADGAE) down to A. Gives it a really fun half bass half guitar feel and makes playing rhythm a blast.

I agree. Open tunings can be a serious pain to figure out and get the guitar to stay in tune in, but they are pretty cool.
