Gun console

Just curious why you guys would leave a gun in a car ? I have a CCP ( conceal carry permit) and I carry everyday everywhere. If I go somewhere that is off limits to carry, I leave my gun locked in the glove box, or it stays at home.

It only goes locked up in the glove box for as long as it takes to get my son from school and back out to the car. 10 minutes tops.
If we plan an evening out to a place that is anti carry, I leave it at home.
What I am getting at is why make a holster that stays in the truck for self defense? Shouldnt the gun be on you for self defense?

I don't like wearing it while driving down the road....it goes in the console. I go to the river alot and I leave it in the truck so it doesn't get wet.

Sounds like a good mod. However i'd mount mine on the roof. and use the sunroof as a hatch. when things get tuff.....:50cal::50cal::50cal::50cal::50cal::50cal::50cal::50cal::50cal::50cal::50cal:

Fo Sho. My full size 1911 gets me raw after a few miles down the road, but its comforting...
Maybe a good idea would be like a better lock system / bulletproof glove box mod?

Because...

For the most part Im only worried about needing it while Im in my truck. I dont have a CCP so I can't just take it everywhere I wish, but if I ever feel the its necessary I do. However the two places I exit my vehicle Im not worried about it.

House [though sometimes I do bring it in with me]
Work- illegal to keep it in the parking lot but I do anyway. I have heard of a man getting beat up at a gas station after work and he sued the plant because they would not allow him to keep his gun in his vehicle and of course he won so I dont think its a big issue anymore.

Also TWO years ago another plant worker went to cash his check at a gas station. Got robbed while he was pumping gas and after he gave him the money the crook shot him and ran. The man reached in his door and shot the bas**** but sadly they both died. One day before christmas, and he had a family.

Also my friends grandpa got robbed at a gas station and beat in the head with a pistol.

Point is most of the stories I hear are at gas station and obviously shady places, my gun will be right next to me at a gas station and I am not scared to break the law to protect myself if I feel it is NECESSARY.

Heres mine.

In the land rover of course.

No its not a beer can, its a red bull can the cup holders just like the one in the 4runner and it NEVER holds the thin drinks. Plus I dont drink beer.

Why not keep your carry gun in the pocket behind the passenger seat? It is normally used for storage for the rear passenger. No thief would ever think of looking there if they were tossing your 4Runner.

I like, but who carries a revolver anymore?! Would it work with a SA?

I carry a revolver for camping and hiking and wouldn't mind having a place for it in the 4runner. It's hard to find a good reliable SA in .44 mag (or any large caliber that would be effective against bears and such). Desert Eagles are about the only option and they suck IMO. I had a Baby Eagle in .45 and it jammed every other round even after I did everything I could to it.

I'll load mine up with .44 SPL for home/personal defense and it's a great carry gun (although not a great concealed carry gun). My 329PD only weighs about as much as a 9mm Glock.

Even though you don't need to have a license to carry concealed here in Alaska, some places will post that you can't have a firearm. I always think about the repercussions of having it on me where I can control it, vs leaving it in the Runner where it can potentially be stolen. Unless it is somewhere it is going to get me in big trouble, I usually go with carrying it. I figure that no one is going to know I have it anyhow, and I'd rather not put another gun in the hands of punks on the street by leaving it in the vehicle.

I hate how the center console is so narrow in the 4runner. I wish we could have one of these gun vaults a company builds for the center consoles of the 05+ tacomas.

I usually store mine in my ankle holster or on my hip under my shirt and sometimes both. On long drives, I may sometimes lay it on the floorboard or on the seat where it is easy to access. I never leave them in the vehicle, but I benefit from being able to carry in all 50 states virtually any place, any time.

Not sure about Alaska, but in Indiana, even if a store has a sign that says "no guns" or anything similar they hold no weight of law. Therefore, according to Indiana law, I can carry in those places but must leave if asked to do so. But it is not "illegal" for me to carry a firearm into a building that says "no guns allowed", unless of course it is a school, Fed building, or other gov't building. You should check your state laws, I would imagine yours are similar.

Usually just keep my springfield .45 acp service model in my lap or the passenger seat when I go anywhere.... She's never let me down when it comes to shooting?

i carry a revolver as well becuase of large game ^

and if it's secured to the frame in a safe and spring loaded why would i ever not store it the bus/truck whatever when i'm not using it? i don't fear other people when walking the streets, seriously what are the chances of stopping a bank robbery or the likes when going into the gas station or getting out of my car for my 10 minute errands that i run then back into the car? i more worry about people when sleeping out in the middle of nowhere off the interstate or large game in the back-country, i don't feel the need to carry into safeway or wallmart...

Keep it on your person if you can (concealed is concealed). Don't leave valuables in the car. Simple.
It all depends on where you're taking it. Being in your car is fine for me when I'm riding around or parked beside the river where no one is around for miles and miles.

With that said, I finally got around to making the 1st part which may turn out to not be a console. After making that first piece I'm not sure which way to go now....decision time.
