GWNF Tomorrow (4/16/05)

So my wife decided we needed a "get-a-way" for at least a day, so she was like---lets go to the George Washington National Forest. Um...OK!!!! We are going to go out on the easiest of the trails and work our way up to something a little challenging--hopefully get some good pics too. This will be the first time offroad in the T4R, but I will try to push the limits a little

I do have all of my recover crap already packed in the truck.

Ok...so we go onto one trail (Rocky Run) which would have been awesome but I didnt feel comfortable going on a trail with only 1 rig. So we then head to a different part of the forest and we were going to do the Taskers Gap run, but it was closed!

Well...we tried to do the Edinburg Trail, but for a trail they stated they "maintained" was freakin RIDICULOUS! It was all rutted out. It was steep, and I could handle the somewhat rutted part, but it got so narly that there was no way I was going to do it, especially by myself. Oh yeah, I also bottomed out the truck on a huge freakin rock while trying to U-turn on the trail. No damage, it hit the cross memeber under the tranny. So anyways, I did get some good pics from one of the trails, and the ride back home. I think we hit hickville, USA.

Hey NOVA guys---I think we need to organize a ride to Rausch Creek and do that guided trail thing. Anyways, enjoy the pics!

Oh...FYI...the Revos were sick! They handled some super sloppy mud without ANY problems...plus some really sharp rocks.

Yes...there are legal trails...and best of all they are freakin free! But like I said, The one trial I really wanted to do was closed and the other one I think WE COULD ALL DO I didnt want to tackle by myself. We should get at least 2 of us together and hit that one again.

Exit 247 off of 81 south---Route 33 West in Harrisonburg, VA.

66 turns into 81 all the way at the end (heading west). Took me about 1.5 hours.

GWNF is for stock vehicles now. The few challenging parts are closed off. If you thought any of it was hard, forget about Rausch Creek. Their bunny trails are harder.

We held the first few East Coast 4Runner Jamboree's at GWNF, back when there were some decent trails. After they closed off the good stuff we moved it to Paragon.

But GWNF is still worth going to, it's beautiful country. I have kin on the WV side.

I would be interested in a trip. But I'm currently stock with ZERO experience.


GWNF does not sound too bad.

I plan to get a Cornfed lift soon. I'd like to go with one experienced driver if possilbe.

Fixing damage due to stock capability or lack of experience is not a good plan.

I didnt say it was hard, I just said there were trails where I would have been more comfortable with someone spotting and following me. You know---you should never offroad alone. Not a good idea incase anything happened. I would have done a lot more if someone else was there. The spring run-off must have torn up that one trail bad then (the one I turned around on. You could see where the runoff areas were). The ruts were way too deep to try without a spotter to keep me up on the peaks (as opposed to the valleys).

I was too busy scaring my wife (aka---going near ruts and a cliff) to get out and take some pics. We had some other things planned to do as well....which didnt leave anytime for pics. All of the pics where taken from INSIDE my truck.
