I don't think Toyota is stupid enough to ruin the 4Runner. The GX doesn't really appeal to the same owners, IMO... so that could be unibody all it wants.
Don't drag the 4Runner down with it, Toyota... you've already got the Highlander and RAV4 for that.

I'm not convinced that uni-body can take the punishment a real truck frame can and still travel in a straight line without squeaks and rattles.
It may not be an accurate report, but Ford Explorer I understand is now Uni-body, so it's not a crazy unbelievable report. It would just be a stupid move

That would be so bad if they did that! I'd be stuck with a 5th gen!? Ewwwww!!! (no offense to any 5th gen owners. I'm just madly in love with my 4th gen)

It would be a stupid move, that's for sure, but not surprising--it seems most vehicles in this country eventually head down this road, getting bigger, gaudier, heavier, with fewer useful capabilities but more trinkets and gimmicks, and leaving real enthusiasts in the dust. TRUCKS have separate frames and bodies, which is why they can do what they do; but, since most people don't use those capabilities with their SUVs, the bean-counters will figure it's an unnecessary expense. It will be a shame if it happens to our Runners.
