Well this stinks. I just spent a chunk for my drl/hb combo with driver. And now if I have an issue I have this to look forward too.

I'm currently using H11 morimoto elite HID kit from The Retrofit Source | The Best HID & LED Projector Headlight Upgrades no issues and easy install.

The HID is XD XTR 4,300k and the LED is the Katana 6,500k. Had the HID kit for about 3yrs, always thought it was lacking and was about buy a new pair of brand name bulbs but rolled the dice on these $50 LEDs.
Are they better? Debatable. Bonus is that you also don’t have to have a bunch of wires, ballasts and drill dust caps. Also removed the 9005 high beam LEDs which had to have two drivers (they come with one, the other was for anti flicker), what a mess.
Replaced with halogen 9005 to have a none blinding DRL (just could not spend more money and add more doodads to lower the voltage). I don’t use high beams anyways as I have roof mounted LEDs.
Overall this set up is way cheaper, way cleaner and more reliable b/c of a lot less crap to break and trouble shoot..... with basically the same result.
Conclusion? Yes, the OEM reflectors are pure garbage.

Well i just did the H9 bulb upgrade and its awesome! Its much brighter and the beam cut off is the same so no blinding of other drivers. Its like the 4R is designed for the H9 upgrade.
If the bulbs last for over a year ill be happy, especially since they are cheap to replace. Now i can use the money i saved for ditch lights and a light bar.

I'm running the morimoto 2stroke 2.0 leds. I like them and they haven't given me any issues. I think they have very good visibility and haven't been flashed. After install, I did adjust the headlights against a garage door though. The only thing is that they have a fan which does hum. It isn't noticeable when driving, but you can hear it when the car is off.

Thanks for posting on here. The customer service is not an issue. All the problems I have had Xenon have offered replacements.
The problem is the amount of failures. Further, the inconvenience experienced by them. To receive a replacement I have to destroy the part and send photos to you. I fully understand this but, seen as I have to drill my light cover to install a 9005. I then have to find a replacement bulb and cover in the meantime while I wait for replacement.
I was offered a replacement this time but seen as you are now in the US and I am in Canada I was asked to pay shipping. I love the product when it works but I work overseas on a 6 on 6 off (weeks) rotation. The 4runner isn't used while I am away. So I have only really had about 4 months of prolonged use out of the kits. In that time I have experienced 1 LED ballast failure, 1 HID BULB failure and now 1 HID Ballast that is playing up.

Are there any OEM HID/bi-xenon/LED lights from any other toyotas that will fit the 4runner? From my experience, I never had any trouble with OEM. Have used DDMtuning and xenon and something always goes wrong even though they replace it for cheap or free.
I have had my Morimoto's for about 1.5 years, 30k miles never had an issue with them.
I have seen that the biggest issue is when the ballast and bulb aren't correctly rated for each other.
55w ballast's are overclocked so they output more wattage and will definitely destroy the xenon bulb faster than a 35w ballast.
I have a 55w ballast & philips extreme xenon bulb for about 12k miles on another car without any issues.

Does anyone else have the trouble with the XD LED kit not producing enough heat to melt snow off the lenses? I had to pull over every 20 minutes to wipe the low beams off the other night to get home.

LED's run cooler, so its logical this could be an issue. Another reason not to do LED's in a HID headlight.
