H4 problem engaging with button ON 2000 LIMITED

have 2000 limiyed auto with 238k
Having trouble engaging INTO H4 WITH BUTTON ON LEVER WHILE DRIVING ON PAVEMENT
.IT WONT ENGAGE UNTIL I STOP AND PUT IT IN REVERSE
this just started . it worked well until now.
H4L work normal when pull shifter
only problem engaging with the button into H4 , when it wont engage steering feels heavy and pulls to right,

any suggestions whats wrong ?

Likely just not being used enough. Mine was similar when I first bought it in February of this year. I try to engage H4 at least once a week and whenever it's raining. I also run it through all transfer case settings at least once a month on gravel/dirt/grass.
