H9 bulbs in place of H11?

I was curious if anyone has done this mod?

I was reading into it and apparently a typical H9 bulb produces 2100 lumens, while our H11's are only at 1350. There is a 10watt difference between the two, so probably not enough to worry me and it seems pretty simple to do the changes on the H9 bulb needed to make it fit (cut a plastic tab and trim a little off a metal one).

If anyone has done this, how is the increase in light? Any problems/issues?

get a hid kit and call it a day ? easier and safer then modify a bulb that dont fit to work.

Well this would be a cheaper route and I also want my low/hi beams and off road lights to all match. I think having HID in my lows and not my other 8 forward facing lights would just bother me when driving at night.

Anyone else have feedback? I know guys do this on their RX-8 foglights and have good results but that is all I know thus far.

there ya go:

all you need is just shave down the top notch and i am assuming the connector plugs are identical, if not, just shave the little notch inside the connectors.

I say just try it. If it will help the light output, I don't see how it could hurt. You won't be anywhere near my beautiful HID's though. :xnuts:

How's Hawaii by the way? You never texted me when you landed. Can I fly out tomorrow and stay with you and Kimma for a few days?

I did something similar in another car. I put in a 65w 9005 where a 55w 9006 was and did notice a nice difference in lighting. Worth a try if you're not going HID.

I know aftermarket HIDs are illegal pretty much everywhere, including NJ, but most people think newer cars come with them anyway. Just don't drive around in a 85 hooptie with glaring HIDs aned you're ok. The 55w kit is awesome, just get rid of the so-called "squirrel finders" and there is actually less glare than stock setup. I have 35w in the fogs and they light up the road in front.
