Had to do something while the sun was out

My name is Sam, and I am a new member of the T4R forum. I am 17, and this last weekend’s weather finally cooperated enough to allow me to spice some things up on my green 99 limited. I decide to paint my stock wheels instead of breaking the bank on some new rims. It took me just over a day worth of work, and they look great! I have a before and after shot. Tell me what you think.

Nice ride sam. Limiteds are the way to go. I did the same with my wheels (save money by painting) but i got red stipe on black sequoia 17's. I getting my new camera on monday or tuesday, so i should have new pics up here. You next mod should include removing your woman steps (AKA running boards) lol

came out good! way to put in a little extra effort with the trim rather than just spraying the whole wheel black! Looks good with the chrome lugs too!

Hey thanks everyone! Yes, Ron, I used pin stripping tape to get clean rim all the way around the wheel and then followed it up with some blue masking tape. It worked really well.

I agree with the others...remove the runnning boards. I did mine last week and it makes a HUGE difference. It looks like I put a 3" lift on my truck. It took all of 15 minutes.

I agree with the others...remove the runnning boards. I did mine last week and it makes a HUGE difference. It looks like I put a 3" lift on my truck. It took all of 15 minutes.

Most people don't have access to a tire machine so they paint the wheels with the tire installed. This is okay to do, just tape it off as best you can.
DON'T try painting the wheels while they're still on the truck. That's just a stupid idea.

I just held 3x5" falsh cards over the tire and blocked wherever I was spraying and got nothing on the tire but a tiny mist of overspray, then followed it up by wiping the tire down with acetone- really easy. And yeah, take them off the truck 1st.

X2 on the sanding question, is it too smooth for paint to stick?
