So I got stuck in a hail storm and now I have a nice dent in the C-Pillar between the rear door and rear quarter panel window. My question is, is it worth going through the paint-less dent repair? Or will I be doing more harm than good and I should just leave it be? Is it easy to access behind there? Or will they have to tear up to get to the dent? Has anyone had any experience with something like this?

depends on how bad the dent is, but i have had good experiences with dent repair. if you get somebody who knows what they are doing, there's no way you're going to be worse off than you are now.

Ok, so the after drying, the there are many many more little dents all over the roof and passenger side.I am afraid to see what it will look like in the sun! Sigh. FML

I had a dent removed just 2 weeks after leaving the showroom floor! :lookout:
Before taking it to the body shop, I remembered hearing about a 'Paintless' dent removal method. So I went online and found a PDR shop in my area. We set it up for the next afternoon. When the tech arrived, he explained what he would do, how long it would take and how much it would cost; to which I exclaimed... "How soon can you start...??" While the guy was working, I was learning! It took about an hour and when he was finished, it looked... 'Amazing'!
The cost was about $300 dollars but if I were to take it to a body shop, I would lose the truck for two or three days due to the paint drying process, buffing, and re-assembly. Plus the chance of improperly matched paint (Blizzard pearl is extremely difficult to match), and the inflated labor costs, so I'd be paying well over $900 dollars.
Fast FWD... I was more than satisfied with the end result! BTW: This year the truck was hit by a wind driven "shopping cart" and left a great big dent on the rear passenger side door. Unfortunately I didn't notice the dent until the next day because it was so dark out that night. My point is, guess who did the PDR this time... "saved a bundle"! My advise to you would be to shop around and find a reputable dent repair shop in your area, get an estimate and just "go for it!" BTW: If you can, try to be around when the tech is working on your vehicle; never know when you'll need a dent repaired in the future! Regards

I have yet to run into a hail claim yet as an Auto Damage adjuster but from seeing it to training hail shouldn't break the paint just dent the panel. PDR, paint less dent removal, will be the best method for repair. If there are a lot of dent and some over the size of a half dollar you will be looking at PDR and also traditional repair. File an insurance claim if you have comp. Get it taken care of. You won't see all those dents out in the sun light. You will need to get inside.
PDR is an art for and takes time to learn. I've talked with techs that have said after just a week vacation they feel like they have lost their touch. Leave it to the professional I say. And that's not because I am in the insurance industry cause I treat every customers car like it's my very own. Please let me know if you have any questions

Thanks guys for the responses! However, I know how wonderful DPR is. I had it done to my 2007 FJ when it received a couple of door dings. However, my concern also comes from my past experience. Even though the guy did a great job getting the dents out he failed to put my door back together properly. There was a rattle and some of the trim pieces didn't fit exactly right. I took the door apart myself and found that a loose screw was causing the noise and there was another screw missing! When I put it back together I had a difficult time putting the trim pieces in place so it looked like nothing was messed with. That is why I was wondering how easy it would be to tear the 4R apart. I will most likely have to roof down as well to get to some of the dents taken care of!

Are you going to run through ur insurance? Doesn't really make a difference. If the shop offers a lifetime guarantee that's who I would go with. That way if something isn't done correctly you have that to fall back on. Maybe find a toyota dealership with a body shop. That way they will do all the removal and reinstall before the PDR. They will have all the clips and screws in Stock.

My wife had hail damage on her Limited earlier this summer when she went shopping in Colorado Springs.
12 grand to fix the fooker.
State Farm paid it in full, minus 500 bucks deductible.
Also, my condolences for having to live in Denver. We have a guest room in Woodland Park if you want to move.

I lived in Denver for over 20 years before moving to FL. I feel for ya man....definitely some bad hailstorms there. Replaced several roofs on my house because of them, but thankfully never got caught in one while driving. Have seen baseball sized hail there before. Hope your 4Runner gets put back in shape :-(

Mine is not horrible but it bothers me because it is brand new!!! I will probably get the passenger side fixed, but as far as the roof, I'll just cover it up with a roof rack! We will see. My friends say I am just whining and can't notice a thing. I say they are not looking hard enough!!!

My job just posted a catastrophic event in Colorado yesterday asking us to go and write estimates in CO. I didn't get picked but anyway. You have car insurance I'd say use it. It's a comprehensive claim and should effect your rates.

You got lucky then and should buy a lottery ticket, I work there and got massive damage, maybe you should look closer? Im amazed that you could have no damage, you were there Monday afternoon? 99% of the cars in our parking lot got significant damage.
