Hi 5th Gens and those close to one. I have installed a Yaesu FT-7900R dual band ham radio in our Pearl White 2010 4Runner. Great little radio! The radio is installed in the inside where the passenger's feet go. The radio control head is mounted on a flezible "gooseneck" mount that mounts to the inboard front passenger seat bolt. It all works fine. Battery power comes directly from the battery. I have a really nice Comet Heavy Duty Antenna Mount called a CMT CP-5NMO (with coax) and a Black Diamond 2m/440 34" NMO Mount antenna. The antenna is mounted on the back door and it all works fine. The remaining challenge is to route the coax cable from the back of the 4Runner to the front. I want to enclose the coax behind all of the interior panels between the front and back. Anybody have any ideas to remove these panels? I am accumulating photos of the project for future posting. Thanks

hey, did you figure this out? I'm about to do the same. I'm hoping the CP-5NMO came with enough coax to get up to the front?
These are what I am going to get:

* Diamond K9000 Motorized Antenna mount
* Diamond NR73BNMO or NR770HBNMO Antenna
As for cable routing, check out those post where member bring power all the way from the front to the back, those will have detailed pics on what panels to pull off.
Personally, I will want to mount the radio at the back, and just bring the head unit up to the front.
I will be mounting the motorized antenna mount and the antenna up on a Gobi Roof Rack and only raise the antenna when I need to use it.

So I have my coax routed through one of the grommets in the upper part of the rear hatch. Just poke a hole and route it through then put something there to seal it up again. Then it routes down the rear pillar and under my tool box to my brain.

I was told that the diamond lip mount may cut into the paint and induce rusting.
Do you have that issue?
I had seen that reported around here.
This is the precise reason why I am planning to mount my unit at the rear and just bring the head unit up front.

Yes, a little, and I might have been one that reported it. Problem can be solved with shorter set screws.
Exactly what I did. My faceplate is mounted on a flex mount on the front passenger seat.

I'm probably going to go with the Comet CP5 mount, it comes with >16' of coax total (first 18" are a pigtail).
I need to check, but I'm hoping to mount my radio in the glove box (D700 remote faceplate). I think 16' of coax should be enough to get up into there, if not, the under the passenger seat probably.
Then I'll be running power from the battery to wherever the radio is.

It's not where it's clamped down, for that there is a plate to clamp the hatch. The set screws make contact with the body when you close the hatch.

I have 2 CP5's , one on either side of the hatch, feeding Kenwood D710 under the driver seat, and a V71A under the passenger seat. Like others, I ran the thin lead in through a slit in the grommet, down through the pillar, under the back trim and along the door sills. The 16ft length was just enough to get under the front seat with not much to spare. I don't think you will make the glovebox with the supplied cable.

i did the install last weekend. Used a CP5, mounted in the upper right of the hatch, routed the cable direct across the rear door seal, into the side panel plastics inside right where it meets the headliner in the corner, and then along the black side panel (above the cubby area in the back passenger side), down the kick panels past the rear and front passenger seats, up under the glove box and into the glove box. Just enough to get about 5" into the glove box, and from there used some right angle connectors and a thin 1.5 ft cable to connect to the radio in the glove box (used that to prevent cable binding and harsh angles)
I used the popout in the glove box to run all the cables. Speaker is down installed in the front right passenger kick panel, mic run along the center console, and I will be putting a GPX 18x puck on the dash and running the cable down the side.
D700 remote face mounted front and center on the top of the dash. Quite nice in the end.

I realize this is an old thread but..........
Does anyone know if the mount shown or one like it, could be attached to the roof lip in the center at the top of the rear door? If so, would the door open fully.

You mean on the Liftgate? It would probably rub even more than on the sides. Having a Gobi ladder, it's a tight fit and there are no set screws. I had this mount before I decided to just use a cbi ditch light bracket. Even if you got it on, the antenna would hit the roof every time you open the door as well.
Someone used a dremel and ground the ends of the diamond mount set screws and said that worked well for the side.
Gotcha, thanks. I really should have taken a closer look before posting. You are absolutely correct, there is really no lip to work with and it will hit.
I am installing a 2 meter antenna and wanted to get as high and centered as possible. I am also trying to avoid drilling a hole.
Now to figure out how to remove the XM shark fin and use the hole. Maybe that's the route to go.
