Hankook DynaPro ATMs

So last night when I was doing my differentials, T-case, and greasing the driveshaft, I noticed to nails in different spots on the inside of my driver-side front tire. Being of no real surprise, as I had this slight leak, I figured I'd take it in to the local Discount Tire for a patch-n-plug. Although I was some what apprehensive of doing such, since I'm towing a 10x12 enclosed trailer for about 900 miles, none-the-less I went in figuring I'd get it fixed and have some more months of life on my Cooper Discoverer HT Pluses.
I had mentioned to the guy helping me that I had noticed the inside of the tire was getting relatively bald, and after waiting he came back to me and said that the belt was separating from the tire.
He obliged in showing me, and sure enough it didn't look good.
I told him that if I was going to get new tires that I wanted something that I could off road in, although I primarily drive on concrete, wanted something quiet and comfortable, and with a good tread life.
He instantly took me to these Hankooks. We talked back and forth about the Good Year Duras and BFGoodrich ruggeds; however, he said a couple of guys at his store rode on the Hankook DynaPro ATMs and had nothing but good things to say, as well as customers who he sold them to.
So I told him that if I'm going to get new tires, that I wanted something big, as I plan on lifting the truck, and big tires will surely get me to get a lift on sooner than later

He recommended the 265/70 .. Mind you I have the limited 18s. Well we put them on, and needless to say they look great. I've already gone through some snow, ice, and slush (thanks Colorado), and they perform so far great. The ride quality is very nice as well. Lock to lock when on the ground they don't rub; however, in motion when braking there is some slight rubbing when making sharp turns. I think I can run these with just a lift; however, I may trim prior to that just depending on how this gets my OCD. I also don't like the smell of heated mud flap from the rubbing
I also got a 5th tire for my spare, and it fits as by some divine miracle, as they measure out to 32.6"

Thought I'd share this with you guys, I think I've read on this forum some positive reviews of this tire, and I'd like to share mine. Funny how things work out. Days before I move across the midwest and this just kind of 'plops' in my lap. But hey, I just got some big ol' meaty tires without the Mrs. getting upset that I bought something for the 4runner, as this was a necessary evil!

Nice! I bought my 4 runner with those same tires and they were almost new. They have not failed in any way. They do well in snow rain and mild mud. I will tell you that if quiet is what your looking for then you might be disapointed. When mine were almost new I couldnt believe how nice they were and quiet too. I've had cooper discovery's and bfg at ko's before these and they were quite amazing. My tires now probably have little less than half the tread left and you would think I was riding on 35's with how noisy they are. Bearings are good and alignment is spot on. I dont mind and I can deal with it but just giving you a heads up. Other people on here have complained of the noise once they wear in some. Mine seem loudest at below 35mph. Then after 50 they are quiet and perfect. I am not trying to pee in your cornflakes at all. I love the look and how the tires perform so they get 4.5 stars for me out of 5. Only because they can be a little noisy.

Man now you're making me wonder if I should go back and get some BFG rugged terrains! Gah! :shrug: I picked these because I heard how much more quiet they were than the rugged terrains. I guess we'll see. It was a very hard choice between the BFGs, so I don't know.. Heck even 4x4mag says the dynapros are quieter than the BFGs.. But then again I doubt they put the miles on them that you did.

I put DynaPro on my 4Runner just over three years ago and they still have another summer left in them. Great on wet, slushy and snow packed roads.
No problems with them at all. Just got back from 4day trip to Steamboat Springs and they performed great in the snow pack going over Rabbit Ears pass.
Will be replacing them with another DynaPro set.

Dont second guess yourself. I probably will buy another set of these tires just because they perform so well. I drive over Rabbit ears pass every other weekend and these tires are great. Im super anal about my vehicle too so it could just be my ocd. I know you will be happy with the tires.

Good to hear! I got to get a little feel for them with the weather we've had in Longmont recently. I'm looking forwards to being (moved) back into Missouri on Monday. Hopefully the crazy snow storms they've been having will leave me some stuff to play in when I'm back.

Yeah I stopped second guessing myself shortly after reading some more reviews on the rugged terrains vs the dynapro ATMs.

Don't want to tell you what to do, but if you can take them back I would. IMO Hankook are some of the worst tires. Some have good luck, but most do not. Seems they are good for about 20k or so then they get noisy and the wear rate increases drastically. I have heard this on car and truck tires. I bought a set for a minivan and after 20k I hated them. Was going to get new tires, but then sold it because the wife wanted a car again.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you (no offense intended) But I've had my DynaPro's since I bought my 4Runner last year and they have performed extremely well in all conditions. I've use them mainly in the sand/dirt and of course on the road and they have great traction for an AT. They are super quiet even when cruising @90. The tread has worn very well due to having them rotated and balanced regularly. I'm at about 70% tread now and road noise is still very minimal. These are definitely some very well worth it AT's.

Not sure where you come up with MOST people are unhappy. All Tire compounds generate more noise as they age and get harder. Buy Myself and 2 other people I know on this forum (Strap22 Chime in) have had these tires with nothing but praise. I am sorry you had a poor experience, but posting that MOST have had a poor experience is simply, misinformation based on your experience. For the record, I no longer run the Hankooks, because I have fallen in love with my Coopers, however I would not think twice about running the the Hankooks Again.

No disrespect brother, I was just pointing out an ambiguous statement that can or is misleading. I respect that you had a bad experience with the tires, this just simply does not support the claim that MOST people are unhappy with them.

Buy Myself and 2 other people I know on this forum (Strap22 Chime in) have had these tires with nothing but praise. I am sorry you had a poor experience, but posting that MOST have had a poor experience is simply, misinformation based on your experience. For the record, I no longer run the Hankooks, because I have fallen in love with my Coopers, however I would not think twice about running the the Hankooks Again.

I also have to disagree with this statement. I've done a lot of reading on these tires, and from reviews ranging from basic drivers to offroaders seems to put this tire at and an exceptional level for an AT tire. These in my opinion have edged out the rugged terrains over what I've read in magazines and from personal opinions.

I specifically told the salesman that I don't care too much about price, although the kevlar GYs were out of my range for 5 tires. He had no issues listening to what I wanted the tire to do, and making a complete recommendation based on my needs.

Furthermore if I have any issues with these tires, I bought their warranty, which I've used in the past and know works very well. So far I couldn't be happier. There's a decent article floating on the interent from an offroad mag that has similar rigs comparing the rugged terrains, dynapro atms, and the toyo o/c's, and it gives great reviews to all the tires but edges the dynapros up towards the top of the pack.

No problem. I said most because i personally know 3 others that have had Hankook tires, i have seen another thread on here awhile back where a few said the same thing along with a couple other forums i am a part of. If people have had good luck with these AT tires thats great and hope it continues. As far as tires getting noisier with age. . . . that may be true, but I have never experienced it except with Hankook and some factory installed Firestones. Not disagreeing, just not my expetience. This forum is for information and advice. Just giving my experience so the op can take it into consideration along with others advice.

So after getting the spare mounted, we found that the 265/70-18 won't fit, as it rubs on some suspension components. This is okay with me, as I really didn't want my spare there; however, it would of worked out better if I could afford that CBI rear bumper, but with our up-and-coming move, that just won't work.

I moved my stock cross bars and put the tire up on the roof rack, but I can't clear my garage. I was hoping to do this until I can get a rear swing away solution, but now I guess it'll stay in the garage, an get rotated in when I do my oil changes.

Anyone have any good suggestions? I looked at tire covers, to see if I could mount it inside, but I didn't really see a good place in the back to strap it too, so I think I'm out of options honestly.

Thanks for putting this up, I have already looked into this, and rather put that money towards the bumper fund I think I'll just garage the spare and use it with my 5 wheel rotations.
Should my TPMS light be turning on when I leave my spare in the garage and drive outside of that radio signal?

TPMS does not operate in any standard configuration across the board. Some vehicles only do a check when the vehicle is powered on. So when you are parked near your spare and power your vehicle on it reads the spare and you are good to go.

I have read post from other that they have removed the spare tire and the light never come son, so in reality who knows.

I made the trip over Rabbit ears this past weekend to so that i could go to Ft. Collins (love it there and sad I moved from there). They got a decent snow storm there over the weekend and once again the Dynapro's did amazing. I even stopped by the entrance to Kelly Flats in the Poudre Canyon to play a little on the way back today (almost got stuck in some deep ruts that were disguised by 6-8" of snow. Again the Dynapro's were amazing. I still notice the road noise at from 10-30 mph but it is just my ocd as it isnt very bad.

Man these tires are amazing. These tires just eat through the snow and ice.. I've tried hard to get stuck, but they just tear right through what old man winter has tossed our way (in Colorado).

As promised here are some o.k. pictures I snapped out in the snow. You get the idea. Now I need to figure out which Toytec lift I want ... I'm leaning towards the Radflo set up with the 2.5" diameter shocks, with the Radflo 2" rears. No body lift, and 650 lb coils for armor and winch (down the road).
