I'm confused. If you weren't offended then how can you use a one word insult to judge a persons character and claim that highlights his "hypocrisy". Either you think he meant it as a homophobic insult or you don't. Either you were offended by the term used or you're creating a lot of unnecessary drama over someone calling you a name months ago. As for the other yahoos.... The only reason an insult has power is because someone gives it to them. For any disagreement there has to be an offender and an offendee. I'm not saying don't stand up for whatever mundane garbage you feel is important, either red of blue, but there is at least a FRACTION of responsibility on both sides for there being a disagreement in the first place.

I dont think that wally was deeply offended as a gay person, or for gay people. Nor do I think that ndecent meant it as a slur against gay people or to be a low-blow personal insult.

The gang "White Fence" dates back to the very late 1800's in the Boyle Heights district of East LA. This was a time when it was legal to kill a Mexican. These young men and women formed a neighborhood group and ran the streets together in order to protect themselves by numbers. Most of todays street gangs get something from this gang in the form of gang writing, colors, dress attire, language etc.

Many other black and Hispanic gangs were formed from the same origin. Bloods and Crips were both started as community outreach type groups. At a time during the 50s-60s era where minorities were not allowed to join social groups such as elks lodge, boy scouts etc, they formed jacket clubs and other groups. Over time Most of these groups turned into what we know today as street gangs. Although gangs do destroy our youth and communities, there is also some good that comes out of them. The Mexican Mafia single handedly drastically reduced the number of homicides beginning in the mid 90's by ordering all drive-by shootings to be prohibited. This law is still in effect today. If you are a young Hispanic and go to prison for a drive-by shooting, you will not have a pleasant or a long stay.

In conclusion, you can see how oppression of minorities has effected our country. Similar to how bullying a kid at school can lead to a mass school shooting. Gangs is one example of what MLK's quote means.
