Hard hit off road- now we have issues

Ill try to keep this short.... 05 Toyora 4runner - mods in signature.

I was off in the desert last Saturday and went over a small jump and upon landing, I landed on the take off of another jump. These are more like bumps in the trail than jumps, but nevertheless.

SO after this last jolt I am off the trail and on the road, I notice something wrong. Both tires are cambered in, and the drivers side is toed in a few degrees.

Not the truck is at the shop, so far I replaced the upper control arms with T/C upper control arms, replaced lower control arm bushings, and ball joints, and of course has it aligned.

All is well... WELL NO... I take the truck from the shop and go to hit the gas and there is a significant binding in the driver’s side axel. The shop says because they has to pull the lower control arms in so much for the alignment the axels are binding, and now recommend I get the adjustable UCA's and start over.

If this was a bunch of non sense I apologize. What else should I look at...

P.S. Spindles dont appear to be bent.

Sorry you're going through this but IMHO you should look for another shopbefore doing anything else that may, or may not, need fixing. It sounds like the alignment guy doesn't know what he's doing.

There is absolutely no possible way unless they modified your frame that the lower control arm will move far enough to bind the axle you may want to take it for a second opinion or jack it up yourself and see what you get

Is your truck making any noises from it?

yea first thing id do is find another shop. Sounds like the guy is just making random stuff up.

Id also do a check over ur braking system especially the side where it feels like its binding. Make sure that the brake isnt grabbing or a broken part or bolt, etc... Could be something internal but i could see a brake component getting screwed up after a jolt like that. Plus checking the brakes is free and easy enough. just my .02

Id also just check that nothing is just catching on the inside of ur wheel from something being bent after the hit.

Don't forget about checking the bearings!

Actually replaced the rotors and pads while i was in there, the bearings look fine.

The shop now says the solution is to get the Total Choas heim joint UCA's.

Who really knows. Not sure what to do.

How hard did you hit those "jumps" I have slammed my 4Runner on some good hills before and still maintained my alignment. (got a couple feet of air before) Are you sure nothing is bent?

that's as good as they could get it? do you have any idea what the numbers were prior to jumping it? or after it was lifted originally?

something is bent, possibly the knuckles themselves.

Bent coil buckets? Rare, but I have seen it before and it will result in everything being out of wack.

The spindles are bent.

I used to work as the suspension and mechanical guy at a body shop. I would replace the obvious broken stuff, Throw it on the alignment rack and it was all outta whack. I would have to go back to the adjuster and the ins co and get a supplement written. Put a new spindle/knuckle/knee whatever you want to call it. It would fall right in to spec. Every. Single. Time.

If you would look close at the old ones there would be stress cracks in the paint sometimes it would pop all the way off and you would see a bit of rust if it had sat a while since the accident.

There is no way that you have those numbers and nothing is bent.

Best of luck.

FINALLY GOT MY TRUCK BACK!

As you can imagine it ended up being the spindle's!!!

The good news is I not have a completely new front end.
-new front rotors and pads
-new axels from CJV
-New LCA bushings, and Ball Joints
-New rack and pinion steering
-TC Upper Control Arms
-New Spindles with TC spindle gussets
-Stainless Brake lines
-Wheel Bearings

I had planned a lot of this work before the incident, but its all done now, and I am headed off road to see how it holds up.
