hard shift into 1st after / when braking in traffic

hey all,

don't think i'm paranoid, but ever since i mounted 33 ATs instead of the stock highway tires i've noticed that when in traffic, the trans seems to clunk into first after stopping or while slowing down in bumper to bumper traffic. so much so that a couple times i've thought i got rear ended.

truck has 182k miles, original trans, not sure when the fluid and filter was last changed, looking for a place to do a flush since just dropping the pan won't displace the stuff in the converter.

anything i should be aware of? anything i can do to help / alleviate? it has also been very warm (for us at least, 85+ degrees ambient), not sure what the trans temps are, trying to find the correct PID to get my torque app to read it with the obd2 bluetooth connector (shows coolant temp, but i don't have a built in gauge for trans)

I would start with changing the fluid. You can do a complete fluid exchange, Tim made a video in the DIY section on how to do it, it's super simple. The filter is just a fine metal mesh screen, it can be removed, cleaned and re-used but you'll have to drop the pan (also simple).

Most people on here will suggest you do not do a power flush, just replace the fluid.

Otherwise, it may be your shift solenoids.

Try driving the vehicle with Overdrive OFF and try slowing down again to see if it clunks. Report back.
