Hope someone can help - 2007 V8 Limited, 93,000 miles:
When engine is off for about 15 min, the engine cranks for 7-8 seconds before finally firing. Within 15 min or sometimes when sitting overnight, it starts just fine. Better when it's very cold, much worse when it is very warm. Once it's started, it runs great, normal mpg, etc. Over the last year (it was like this when I bought), it has been to 5 shops (2 Toyota) for 49 days, and this is what I have found/replaced:
New battery
Spark plugs are good
Have tried Seafoam and premium fuel
MAF sensor is clean
New Cam sensor (existing one had melted wires)
Flushed coolant
New Coolant Temperature Sensor
New fuel pressure regulator
Engine compression test showed no leaks
The second Toyota found that the fuel pump was not priming the system. So I had the fuel pump replaced. They found that the fuel sock was dirty, and that was replaced as well.
This fixed the starting issue! But only for two weeks...After two weeks, back to the hard start. Called the shop and they suggested maybe a faulty fuel pump, so they replaced it again on warranty, no dirty fuel sock this time, and they said that the fuel tank was clean. This time the issue was fixed for about 1 week, then back to the hard start... Also, the fuel pump manufacturer said that the first one was not faulty.
Does anyone have any ideas? I have written Corporate Toyota and they can only refer me to the service manager. I've spent too much time and money, and this is my last shot before I sell it.
It seems too strange to me that it will start just fine in the morning after sitting all night, or will start much better when it's very cold. I drove from Denver (home) to Minnesota over Thanksgiving, and it started great there with no temperature difference. I can't imagine it's altitude, but something was different. And I really can't figure out why the fuel pump would fix the issue but only for a week or two.
Has anyone had a similar issue or had any luck with Toyota helping? Thank you so much, sorry for such a long post...
