Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

Still new here but I read the whole thread (so no flaming please :D ) and i just want to double check everything before i start buying parts. please correct anything i have wrong as i am still learning this stuff. i have a '98 Limited so those are the Split 3 spoke wheels which will not clear the 231mm brakes unless you grind the wheels (not recommended at all) or buy a wheel spacer. a 1.25" wheel spacer will work to give you the clearance you need to clear the 231mm brakes. correct?

Yes, the 1.25 spacers will work for ya.

Mine's done!

A few teaser pics until I can get the video edited together and uploaded. I can't tell much difference in the brake pedal and the brakes feel great. Bed them in and they're awesome. The first pic is the bleeder tool I built. Whoever thought of that is a genius.

I'm working on the install video and will post it up in the next few days.

Cleared my Level 8 MK6 16x8 wheels.

Decals make the calipers look awesome! To me this is like a big brake kit for the 4Runner so it's a performance upgrade and deserves a sporty look.

Zooroadbaja, thanks for the follow up info. You're experience is consistent w/what my research showed RE the LC 80 wheels and the 231's. I'm not sure what's going on w/J.B.'s setup. Maybe the Acorn & Washer style 80 series wheels are a little different when it comes to the wheel mounting surface??

I have the washer style lugs on my 80 series wheels, so I'll go ahead and try them on anyway just to see.

Did you ever try your 80 series wheels w/ washer style lugs? I bet they fit.

My LC 80 series wheels fit and they are the later wheels ('96/'97) with the shank/washer lugs (same lugs our 4Runners use) and they fit.

I recently got a set of 80 series wheels with the acorn conical lugs from a '94 and put them on a friends Tundra and they don't fit unless you use a spacer.

I did not take any comparison photos of the wheels, but I think it's pretty safe to say that they are slightly different.

So, the later style LC 80 series wheels w/ shank/washer lugs will fit and earlier LC 80 series w/ conical/acorn lugs will not fit without spacer.

How did you guys get around the core charge policy. I emailed Rockauto.com they told me they would not give you the core charge back if you sent them the old 4runner calipers.

I guess I could just play dumb at NAPA.

I found a junk yard with a Tundra and picked my 13WLs up for $35 each. I will be cleaning and rebuilding my own with a $13 kit from Toyota.
No core charge involved.

Rockauto took my stock calipers back no problem. Shipping via Rockauto makes it pretty expensive; I'd get the calipers locally if I did it again. You don't have to play dumb, just don't call out what you are doing. A toyota core is valuable to them either way.

Your typical Joe and Charlie at the autoparts store aren't going to look at your T4R core calipers and notice right off the bat that they aren't for the Tundra. 99.9% of the time they'll trust you.

I only saw one person complain of that. I can't think of a reason the pedal travel should change. The caliper holds more fluid, but you just put more fluid in the system so it "should" balance out. I'll know later today as I'm installing mine when I get back from the gym.

It doesn't balance, because in order to move the larger Tundra pistons the same distance (i.e. toward the rotors), it means that more fluid needs move into the larger caliper. I noticed my pedal required more travel after I did the swap, but it doesn't bother me.

I'd be happy to check.

please do and let me know

those are difficult to find at the auto salvage yards around here because Toyotas get stripped of parts fairly quickly to supply south of the border...

and BTW, thanks for having set up the previous 2013 SW group buy, I ended up getting a rear bumper with spare tire & fuel can carrier out of it, as well as the front bumper from fjatheart

I'll check next week when I get back home. Shoot me a PM on Monday to remind me. I have short term memory. ;)

You got Trae's front bumper because he helped me install mine. Wow, what a pain it was. That changed his mind about wanting the SW front. BTW... My 4Runner hauled your bumper from Houston to Dallas.

I was worried about a tight fit of the SW front bumper to the frame brackets after Trae told me that (and I read other online reviews), but mine fit easily with absolutely no interference at all, so I guess I must have been extremely lucky in that regard...

I ordered Centric calipers from Amazon. They never charged me a core charge, I got free two day shipping with Amazon Prime, and the calipers I received don't look remanufactured at all! I'm still unsure if they are remanufactured as they look brand new. At the time I'm writing this, they're selling for $64.46 each with no core and free shipping. Not a bad deal considering the quality of the calipers I received.

The Centric Part numbers are:
Centric Parts 141.44231 Semi Loaded Friction Caliper - Right
Centric Parts 141.44232 Semi Loaded Friction Caliper - Left

Here's the links to the parts on Amazon.

I have a friend who ordered some BMW M calipers from an early '90s M5 for his early '90s 530i and he sent back the 530i calipers. The vendor he ordered them from called him and left a very hostile message. they were furious and said, "If we could charge your credit card for the cost of two new calipers from BMW, we would. Don't ever even attempt to order anything from us ever again! If you try, we'll contact the authorities and report you for theft!" So if you do try and return the wrong cores, be careful. Maybe pay cash. :wink2: I bet you would have no problem at Napa as long as the guy working the counter that day isn't one of their veteran parts guys, which Napa seems to attract more of than their competition.

Maybe I missed it somewhere on this huge thread, but where is it stated that the Tundra pistons are larger diameter than the 4RNR pistons?

In all the pictures they appear to be the same diameter, but I'd sure like to see some measurements.
