Hard to start and overheating

Like the title says. The starter spins and spins. Theres no check engine lights (unless you count the abs light which has been on). I have to hold the pedal about halfway till it finally catches and starts. Wont start without pedal use.

Second problem, maybe related. Defintely running hotter. Usually runs right under halfway on the temp gauge. Now it goes barely over half up to about 3/4ths.

Any ideas?

Little more info needed. Which one started first? Overheating could have caused the hard start.

How does the motor run once its going. Does it run smooth, good power?

How are fluid levels like oil, coolant. Any foreign material in the oil or coolant like they are mixing?

Plugs and wires can cause hard start. If everything is checking out you may want to look into a leakdown and compression check.

Oil level is good and clean, but is due for a change. Coolant resevoir is empty so that probably the cause of the overheat.

Wouldnt plugs/wires throw a code, like a misfire or something? Thats why i ruled those out.

Never rule anything out because no code. You can unplug entire wire from plug without a code.

Coolant should not be low. Very hard to diagnose a slow start over a forum chat with no diagnosis from your side.

First things first, GET SOME COOLANT IN THERE! check your radiator cap, is it holding pressure? Are you sure??? Cheap fix there and could be a contributor to the overall problem.

When you change the oil check for "Pink milkshake" this could be the rough start... hope not buddy.

Well i refilled the radiator this morning when i had access to a hose. The coolant looks fine but i guess ive got a leak somewhere. Drove about 20 miles to work and theres no evidence of the milkshake, usual shifting and the coolant looks fine. Pulled the oil cap and its just oil, no evidence there.

Check for a crack in your reservoir usually at the bottom, a loss of coolant could result in your overheating. Also, what do you mean you filled it when you had access to a hose? Did you just put water? Usually only a good idea to get you out of a bind.

Also you would most likely need to check the oil when drained from the oil pan to truly tell if they have mixed. If shifting is fine then you probably dont have it.

Sounds like a tired motor. Blown head gasket in which you are washing down your cylinders while burning the coolant. Hence running hot, losing coolant, and hard to start.

Sorry to be blunt but i don't think there is a happy ending to this story.
