Hard Wiring Valentine One

Promise I'm trying to figure this stuff out before asking. Searching for answers just isn't getting me there.

I have a 2021 Limited and want to hard wire my V1 Radar Detector.
The detector comes with one of those wire taps that you wrap around a wire and squeeze with pliers to cut the insulation for a connection.
Don't think I want to use that clip.

I need a switched circuit but I'm not versed with the acronyms on the fuse box cover plate and there seems to be no fuse diagram to simply tell me in English where I need to go with my wire.

There is one place with no fuse but as luck would have it I've loaned my good volt meter and my junk one is, well ... just hit the the trash bin.

Does anyone know if this one is switched? If not can someone advise me what fuse to pick. Is the back of Dash Mounted 12V Outlet easily accessible?

Why dont you just use a MirrorTap. It goes into the back of the mirror so you dont have to run any wires.

If you don't already have an "Add-a-fuse", head over to your local auto shop and pick one up.

For accessories like a radar I would use the "WIP" (windshield wipers) fuse location as your power source so that it only gets power when the key is in accessory or engine is on.

You'll use the add-a-fuse by pulling out the existing WIP fuse, add it to your add-a-fuse wire along with the fuse for your radar detector (10amp should be plenty) and plug it back into the WIP slot. Now pop in the key and make sure your radar and wipers work.

Vortex is really good.
The only thing I don't like about the Add a Circuit is the cover plate won't fit. But maybe I'll figure out how to keep it close so I don't forget where I put the darn thing. Looks like another Duct Tape solution.

Mirror Tap is also nice but I have to think about that a little more. The OEM wiring is similar but gives me access to an accessory such as Concealed Display, but it doesn't give me the wire length needed. Concealed Display helps reduce RD tailgaters.

All you need is an extended fusebox cover! I'm running 3 add-a-fuse's with my extended cover. Here is a recent thread about an extended cover for 2021 models: Extended Fuse Box Cover?

I like the mirror tap, made it a lot easier and cleaner. But understand the accessory part, I use to have the speed off wires in.

The Mirror Tap is pretty easy to install. No running wires into the fuse box. I just moved my V1 over from my other car and it took literally three minutes. Most of that was Googling to confirm the blue wire was the +.

Hmmm
Interesting.

Need to research but I'm thinking with JBV1 App I don't need any accessories.
that would mean the Mirror Tap is the better solution.
