Has anybody added a body lift after installing a Demello Bumper

I got my Demello bumper last year. Right now I am kind of at a cross roads where I am trying to think ahead. I am about to make some changes but was also thinking about some other changes down the road. I was debating on installing a 1" BL but was curious if any of you guys had added a BL after you already had your Demello bumper. I know [MENTION=47269]Darklight[/MENTION] has done this but wanted to see who else might have done it. Pics and suggestions would be appreciated.

Been thinking about doing this myself. Due to the lack of height adjustability on the bumper I think I'd be limited to a 0.75" body lift at the most, to be able to do it without having to fabricate some crazy brackets OR not be left with a HUGE body gap under the fenders and headlight.

Given the slots that are in my bumper currently, I got room to raise the bumper about 5/16" without doing any cutting, hacking or fabricating. To adjust it any further will require that I get creative. The body gap on my rig would grow by about 3/8" all around. Resulting body gap would be about 5/8" at the narrowest point and upwards of 7/8" (almost a whole inch) at the widest. Without actually seeing a bumper gap that big on the Demello I can't decide if that would annoy me or not. The fact that I'm thinking about it this hard, is almost an indicator in and of itself that it probably would irk me to the point that I was forced to do something about it...

Just thinking ahead for when my current tires wear out I was thinking about going to a 35" tire. Just not sure

So a body lift is just for tire clearance(35)? Even at that you will still have to mount chop, pinch weld banging also. No I don't have 35's but also thinking the same as going to them on my next set. I have gone and flexed and taped out another 2" which is more than what I would be adding.

Point being, I thought the Demelo has more clearance than my SW. I figured I would have to cut out some that area on mine to flex (wheel area). Just an idea to look at.

I am not worried about clearing the Demello bumper. I am just wanted to raise it when/if I do a BL. I am getting a rear bumper and would have them go ahead and adjust the mounting for a BL if I do it

I have a demello bumper with 1.5 body lift. I could move it pretty well with the slots but only one bolt on each side but doesn't look bad and I have winched from it like that multiple times eventually I will modify it to the 1.5 body lift

Just to clarify...

You have the Demello bumper that's designed to go with a 1.5" body lift? Or you have a 1.5" body lift, and the Demello bumper that's designed for 4R's with NO body lift?

Sounds like the second option?

And the second part, it sounds like you're saying that, in order to adjust the bumper for the 1.5" body lift, you had to move it up so that you were only using ONE of the frame bolts on each side to hold it in place?

Momo I've been thinking about the same exact thing. Usually the 4crawler website confuses me enough to drop the idea for at least a couple weeks, but then I want the body lift again. From what I've read you can either slide the bumper up and use one bolt on each side as mentioned above, but that kinda scares me. Or you can deal with the gap. Other options include inserting a rubberized strip piece as a filler for the gap. I think it would be helpful if members posted some pics of theirs when they left the 1" gap as-is so we can tell. I honestly don't think the 1" gap will be bad. Mine is pretty snug to the body as it sits now

I just decided not to worry about the BL for now. If I go to 35's it will be a while anyway. Was just trying to think ahead for ordering my rear bumper.

Think I figured out a way to make adjust the height of my bumper upwards to match a 1" or 1.5" body lift without sacrificing too much mounting integrity. It'll require the addition of a fairly simple support bracket on either side of the frame, and an extra front plate which will effectively sandwich the main bumper mount flanges to the frame mounts. Not sure if/when I'll get around to actually doing this but I'm fairly confident in the path.

I will say that the main mounting geometry of my Demello bumper appears to be a bit different than what I've seen on later versions of the 4runner bumpers, so my idea may not work for all of them. Later versions seem to have an extra support bracket that's similar to what I designed in order to raise mine up.
