Has anybody added a rear passenger reading light?

Hi Guys!

I'm just wondering if anybody has added a rear passenger reading light of sorts? My 1.5yr old son is really into flipping through books right now. I thought that it'd be nice to add a little bit of reading light for him to see when we are driving at night. I'm thinking that I would go with a led solution.

Anybody done it? I would love to see some pics please.

I just started researching the same thing for my older children who can't seem to put down their books for a minute. I'm been searching for something that looks as factory as possible although I recall when I was a kid, my father hacked a green desk light that used 12V bulbs into the family wagon. He wasn't worried too much about appearances, just function.

I have two kids so I was looking for 2 so it won't work from me but this doesn't look too bad and you could probably change the bulb to LED later.

For some reason the grab handles pop into my head for some reason. "Hmmm...How could I run some wires and mount the led light there? Hmmmm". That's what has my mind going...

I took a look at that ebay light you talked about. I think my kid is a little too young for something like that. He'd break off that gooseneck in a second.

I would like for it to be pinpointed so that it wouldn't bother me as I look in the rearview mirror. Something like the reading lights in airplanes.

Should be for an interesting project. :bravo:


edit: I found a 12v led reading light on ebay similar to the one you posted.

Nah, I just didn't find anything that I thought would look good, at the time. I ended up using a clip-on flexible neck type of led light (battery, self contained). Worked good and it was cheap. Easy solution.

Me either. I just couldn't find anyplace to put it that would make it look factory. Still have the lights sitting on the work bench.

My current thought is to put a couple of USB sockets in the back and buy some USB goose neck lights. That way we could use if for charging and lighting when needed.
