hello. I have a 2008 4runner 4.7L with 65k miles and my starter recently started to go out and I'm in the middle of changing it out. I have the intake manifold off but now unsure where to start. the bolts are bolted from the other side where i think it can't be reached? im stuck. PLEASE HELP!!!! TIA!
Has anyone ever changed out a 2008 4runner v8 starter?

I have never changed one but I would think you could get to the bolts on the back side of the engine block without removing the transmission. Get a mirror and flashlight and look for the bolt heads. I think there should be 2 bolts back there.

you have a 2008 with 65k miles and your starter is failing? that should definitely be covered under warranty I have almost 160k on the factory starter, been in and out of mud, water, sand, and dirt with no issues.
I haven't had to change mine yet either so I can't give much advise other than perhaps purchasing a haynes manual and see what it has to say.

Yeah, I never understood Toyota's obsession with putting their V8 starters in the valley like that....
thanks everyone for the input. especially you moneypit for the pdf. sorry for the late response but after scratching my head and not knowing what else to do, i took it to the dealer, and it wasn't even the starter. it was a security device that toyota had installed on the car to prevent theft, and what had happened was the little battery on it was going out on it so that was why i couldn't start the car and crap. sheeezzz! i had to pay $120 for them to diagnose but they took that little crap out for free. now i dont have to worry about the starter going dead. thanks again guys.
