Nope. But it's getting increasingly difficult to make such claims since a lot of Japanese cars are now manufactured in America and many "American" cars are manufactured in Mexico or Canada... We have three "Japanese" cars in the family and only my 4Runner is manufactured in Japan. Heck, my friend has a Honda Accord that was manufactured in MEXICO, though there's nothing wrong with that.

In some classes of vehicle, the US makes some great cars. Z06 being a good example.....
But if anyone can tell me a domestic SUV that's offers more than a 4Runner for the price, I'd looooooooooooove to hear what it is
And as TK noted, cars are built all over the world nowadays, so the arguement is somewhat useless. A Tundra, for example, is built just as much in the US as a Silverado......

My father will never buy a vehicle unless it is made by GM. That includes Ford, Chrsyler, or any foreign brand.
I appreciate the higher quality/reliability of Japanese vehicles, so I will probably continue to buy them. I used to have an American flag sticker on the rear window of my last SUV (Ford), but I will not put one on my Toyota. It just seems kinda hypocritical to display an American flag on a Japanese vehicle to me.

Yeah I know... The AMF days were a disaster for Harley and things have improved since then. The real beef I have is with people who think Harley is somehow superior to other brands (especially Japanese) and are vocal about it. In those cases a big dose of reality is in order. I'm cool with Harley owners that are reasonably humble, but they're few and far between.

Yup one of my friends give me sh_t about it. But he does zero maintenance on his rides, so we have nothing in common when it comes to discussing motor vehicles.

I used to talk to somebody who always argued with me over GM and Toyota. He has a 1997 GMC pickup truck and told me that my 4Runner was a wussy car and would break down in 10 years. He also said that 4Runner's couldn't make it through 2 inches of snow. He hated every car but an American car. He said that by buying a 4Runner, I shouldn't live in this country because I am not supporting my fellow Americans. I told him that I would by an American car if they built something that was as reliable as a Toyota.

There are some people down here that own Nissan's and Toyota's but have a rebel sticker or flag flying from them. I just laugh at them.
My father in-law works for Alcoa and supplies aluminum to GM so that is all he will buy. Won't buy any other american or foreign car. So he always gives me grief about our car. I can't really say much though. He had a 95' Silverado in mint condition with nearly 300,000 miles on it. Though the front knuckle came off when he got to work and the wheel was just kind of sitting there, so he bought a brand new silverado. My family has always boughht Toyota's or Honda/Acura's so I will too. I hate driving my work truck(Ranger). This thing is a piece. 04' 20k and the tranny is going out on it. Wish it was a Tacoma. Oh well free gas and Insurance.

Kind of a global economy now any way. Some "American" cars have parts that come from Mexico and other places. Just like some Yotas are built right here in the USA by fellow Americans. I see it as a small minded mindset.
When I got my Yota I am sure the sales guy (American) got a piece, the dealer (American) got a piece. Same with service and the Revteck lift, the little goodies we all buy - all American. It's not like I went over to Japan, spent all my $ and the Americans got none. I had a Ford and it was not finished as my 4R. Its called competition. And our great country was built on it.
Don't get me wrong I am super pro American - no greater country the what we have here! But lets see the big picture. The world is much smaller today.

When I was at the strip with my Mitsu Eclipse I got crap all the time especially bringing an import to the strip back in '94 before the import scene took off.
It was funny when a last gen Camaro owner was lined up to race me and raved over his American muscle and how he was loyal the U.S.A. and I noted how his car was built in CANADA and mine was built in Normal,ILL and said "who's actually supporting the American worker,bud?"
I then proceeded to put over a full second in the 1/4 on him and his '02 SS.:bash:
He never talked to me again for the rest of the race season.

A vehicle, to many of us, is a huge financial investment. So after one makes an assessment a decision is made. Since we have different minds, we will make different choices. In the end it’s no different than trying to figure out who makes the best pizza in town. It’s extremely subjective and many times a passionate thought process. BTW my 4runner is nicer than yours
I usually give people crap for not buying an Import, but once I told some guy his Ford was a POS and not realizing that I was in Florida where F-250 are as common as Camrys I took back what I said cause 5 guys who drove Fords all turned around and I did not want to have to start killing people to make a point:arrow:
Im not gonna say I know everything but when some Domestic Truck guy tells me his truck will go further with his posi track 2wd rear end in the snow then mine with 4wd I know their full of it, but I have to pick my fights, I've seen 2wd trucks get stuck cause they rolled off the blacktop in a parking lot and the grass and mud was so slick they could not get back onto the blacktop, and their gonna tell me they drive through 2 feet of snow covered back country roads.
I break the guys down the smart way, don't argue which is better, just be like yeah all I do is change the oil then the Ford head goes into, well yeah I have to have the rear rebuilt every 20k cause it has so much power going through it, I think it's funny you have all these die hard domestic owners who will accept the fact that the companies make low quality vehicles, if I read on here or yotatech that Toyota made weak tranys and you have to shell out $5000 to replace it, I would not buy the truck but with Domestics, the excuse is they made a weak design and the truck is just to powerful, so you need to have the part rebuilt, cause rebuilt sounds better then it broke and they replaced it:
From when I was 17 to now being 25, the amount of doemstics that people around me have traded for imports increases every year: my entire neighborhood is imports except for the fullsize tahoe or expedition

I don't think it's un-American to buy a foreign car.
It's a global economy. Purchasing foreign goods isn't grounds for surrenduring your citizenship, or giving up your right to proudly display the flag in a tasteful manner, even on your 4Runner.
You can ask those who give you grief over your highly-reliable vehicle if they know who made their DVD player, where their PC's components were manufactured, or if they were aware that the 33" BFG M/T's on their "American truck" were manufactured by a French-owned company.

My '83 VW Rabbit and '84 VW Scirocco were pretty good. But being stationed in White Sands New Mexico, I drove the heck out of the Scirocco and it was really starting to suffer serious wear and tear at 98,000 before I crashed on the freeway.
When the Big 3 can build them like Toyota/Honda, then I will go back.

Like someone else said, I'd prefer the looks/performance of foreign cars as opposed to domestic cars, in every class.
Maybe with the exception of a Mustang, especially if it's a Saleen. Actually, I don't know if I could even take a Saleen Mustang over a twin turbo Supra or 350z.

1) The day he buys his first GM Suburban
2) The day he sells it!
The GM service writer knew my voice on the phone.
The extended warranty cost me $1800 and when the thing finally left my house the warranty company had already spent $2800 on repairs and the end was not in sight.
I had all the problems you read about on the GM forums. One right after the other.
Never again GM!
