for most people, atleast a house is an investment. it's a completely different feeling psychologically, than laying down money for a car that'll be worth next to nothing in 10 years. most people here have made 5 digit profits on their house just from the time their offer's accepted to when they get the keys! crazy market...

point taken but many people who have jobs that bought houses had to have a vehicle which they bought before the house in order to get to the job to make the money to get the house thanks to the vehicle

if you think cars are expensive try buying 2000 big rigs at 100k a pop, my mothers family was in the trucking business and they always got a laugh out of people who thought cars where expensive, or a speeding ticket, nothing like $5000 in fines cause the cop was having a bad day

vehicles and cars are a way of life, no way around it;):

I'm a sports photographer and all my photo equpment is made in Japan. To me, that's a mark of quality. I've never had anyone question the fact that I have a Japanese made vehicle. I think all my friends/co-workers (I also work at a camera shop) are of the same opinion that "Made in Japan" is a mark of high quality.

there again, you're comparing the cost of doing business to personal cost. i design multi-million dollar microchips for a living but that doesn't mean i pay for that out of my own pocket. and i also don't laugh at people who thinks cars are too expensive, because they've probably got more money and financial savvy than the ones who drive expensive cars. that's just me though...

okay, now i'm being kind of an ass. sorry, i don't mean to pick away at your comments. i probably just been reading The Millionaire Mind one too many times...

They must have shipped my 4Runner from Japan without tires on the rims. I refuse to believe that these cheap a#& DoneFloppies are made in Japan! The tires are to my rims as
:spam: is to my email inbox. I'll have to DELETE them soon at my own expense! :cursin:

no your not an ass, Im just tryin to show a comparison that everything has a cost, you got to start somewhere.

My point about laughing at people cause they think their car is expensive was try owing several hundred big rigs or 1 and car expense is nothing, for most people driving "expensive cars" they have nothing but big bills, I know plenty of people with lots of money who drive nothing more then 40k-50k cars but keep them for 7-10 years.

Now back to the car expense, Im no millionaire but I understand not all people can buy brand new loaded cars, some can only afford used cars, but in that desicion we try to pick a good reliable car that will cost us nothing more then the cost of oil changes.

Japanese make good cars and electronics (and the rail system), but keep one thing in mind. All their other industries are sub par to the rest of the world. Tried a Nishiki bike? not so hot compared to Trek. Compare Fuji film to Kodak? see what the experts think - yes there were some improvements. What PC company has emerged from Japan that is successful? Their banking system is wacky, they have a constant struggle with the economy. Even Nissan declared bankruptcy. Even Sony's quality has gone down hill - however they are on a come back.

I love Toyota, but whenever I go hunting, I would NEVER use a gun made by the Japanese. Especially when we go Deer or Bear hunting, owning a Japanese gun is like a death sentence...

Edge,

Sorry your advised about not buying a house came in too late.
Actually I happened to own and sold a few. And made some good profit off of it.
I just happened to make a comment that the price of cars are outrageous coz my thinking is that you don't get any money back unless of course you use it for business. I grew up from a trucking family and thru this we were raised and clothed and sent to school . But I chose not to follow the same business cause cars , trucks etc. just loses it's value as soon as you drove it out of parking lot. Not to mention the fact that you are at the mercy of your hired driver or another foolish driver on the road. All it takes is just one accident and God only knows what kinda lawsuit will come one after another, plus your insurance will only pay you the market value irregardless if you just got it out of the dealership, which we all know is less than what you paid for it. Unlike houses if you buy it you are more likely to recoup your money if not make more . But of course I chose to stay on the medical field cause I get a good feeling helping a lot of people directly.

A Nishiki bike is like a Huffy, mass produced crap. You ever heard of Shimano bike components? Many professionals use Shimano bike parts, even Lance Armstrong's USPS team. Even your Trek bikes use Shimano parts.

I am sure there are other examples of things that you mentioned that are wrong but too tired to list them all.

Just think you should not make such a general statement. That's almost like saying everything made in the US sucks because you use GM, Ford and Dodge as an example.

My point is exactly that not everything made is Japan is gold, as not everything made in the US is crap. I love my 4Runner, but no one makes a better work truck the Ford with their F series. Toyota trucks are great and reliable, but they do not have as strong of a frame and engine as the Ford and the Ford is very reliable. I have owned both American and Japanese cars, and had no problems with both. I do like my 4runner a lot, but if someone else makes a better SUV, I am there!

You know what they say about opinions, right?

From my experience, the Ford F series is a big pile of shit. A coworker had all kinds of front end problems (even the ball joints were shot) in less than 20K miles on his new F series.

My uncle also owns one that has been nothing but headaches.

Frankly, I'm surprised that Ford sells so many of the things. I rarely hear someone say that they've had a reliable F series Ford.

I am not stating an opinion, but hard data from jdpower.com -- i am currently working with their data for a work related project. You would be very surprised how the American cars do. In most cases, statistically, they are within 4% of Japanese cars. For long term reports, the Ford f-150 does as well as the Tundra. Now you could argue that after 3 years is when it counts. If you go to the nhtsa web site, you will see that statistically (on relative basis to the number of F150s to the Tundras sold) that there are actually more complaints about the Tundras. On the other hand, the European cars are tanking big time. Mercedes very bad, while BMW trailing second (we do not count Skodas, Fiats, Ferraris, etc).

Well, I don't know if I'd consider JD Power to be fact.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't JD Power track data on initial quality?

Hell, any car/truck/suv should do well with initial quality these days.

Do you believe in reliability data from Consumer Reports? I ask because some people take it as gospel, while others have no faith in it at all...

Anyway, a quick glance at their reliability ratings will show you that Japanese vehicles have tons of red dots while American and European vehicles are mostly empty/black dots.... it's been that way for as long as I can remember.

I luv the Comparison of the F-150 to the Tundra, Toyota sells what 200k of them a year and they started in 2000, took Ford 100 years to sell a million F-Series trucks and in the past few years Ford has not even sold a million, their now at 800k.

For anyone who thinks 150's are great you need a job fixin them in a dealer, you will get sick of them and realize the shit they pump out of the factories and force people to buy is crap that hold together pretty well during the warranty period, my friend was a Ford tech, like clock work the Turbos on the diesels would blow up at just over 60k, the average Ford truck owner is looking at 8-10k in warranty work that could be avoided if Ford slowed down and made the vehicles better, thats if you catch the problems before your warranty expires, the stuff that breaks after warranty is what makes people trade for a new truck, I think it's funny that the local Ford dealers don't stock used vehicles with more then 20k, why cause a Ford with 60k is crap.

The Nissan Titan sold under 100k, sure it's got problems but nothing worse the the Fords, the RdgeLine is gonna kill with Honda Loyals and, my predictions for the Big 3 is Toyota, Honda & Nissan:)

Domestics don't do anything but hand the sales over to the Imports, they need to restucture like the Imports cause their loosing it;):

But doesn't that piss you off? I mean, here we are living in the most advanced country in the world (look at our technology!) and our big three auto manufacturers have been well behind Toyota/Honda in terms of reliability for as long as I can remember.

We should be building the best vehicles on the planet and buying/driving them. Think about it-- if the majority of American vehicles had the same reputation as most Toyotas/Hondas have today, how many people would be driving imports? I'd bet not nearly as many.... the biggest reason I hear people say that they chose an import is the fact that they are more reliable than domestics.

Yeah it pisses me off in so many ways but oddly I feel more American driving a Toyota then a Ford or a Chevy:arrow: cause if Ford/Chevy made vehicles like Toyota then Toyota would not be where they are;):

I bought my Toyota truck from American, not from Japs.
I probably should have asked to see her birth cert for a proof.:bash:
