Has anyone rebuilt their rear diff??

Hi

My rear diff pinion has no preload on it, so I'm planning on rebuilding the diff with a new crush tube to get the preload back, and check the meshing pattern between the crown wheel and pinion.

I've got the crown wheel assembly out, but how to I remove the pinion? Does it need to be pressed out? Will this damage the pinion bearing?

As usual the FSM calls for some arcane SSTs which I doubt anyone has actually bought! Surely there is a sensible way to do it!?

Thanks

I just tagged you in a post in my thread where I regeared my rear diff.
The pinion flange nut needs to come off, and then yes, the pinion gets pressed out. I highly highly highly recommend new bearings, in fact, probably a full rebuild kit.
