Has anyone replaced HEATED side mirror only?

I've searched here and Yotatech on side mirror replacements - I actually purchased and received my perfect-matching Burco glass replacement for the driver side door. It's a '99 Limited with heated mirrors - yes I have the "HTR MIR" 10amp fuse and yes they do get hot with rear defroster on

I was hesitant that I would instead need special heat-resistant mirror. A rep from Burco called me back today and said "no", however, that I would have trouble removing the old mirror from the heating backing/plate and this I would probably break the wires.

Has anyone replaced the mirror successfully with heated unit?

Any tips, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've done it on the jetta, just be careful when you pop it off, other than that dont let it fall when you pop it off.

When I bought my 4runner in 2009 the driver's mirror was cracked and unusable. My SR5 has heated mirrors, too.

I got the part number from the seller and bought the Toyota replacement mirror glass for $58 IIRC. The mirror should have the little wire lead coming off of it for the heater.

To remove the mirror, you need heat. I used a blow drier. Be patient, work the drier all over the area where the mirror is and gently pry off the old mirror (obviously my mirror was cracked so it came off in pieces.) Once you get the mirror off you should be able to unplug the wire. It's a quick-fit kind of socket thing (I think it's a blade-type fitting) so it's easy to remove.

Now, this is IMPORTANT. Kind a a "Learn From My Fail" thing:

Make sure the back plate that holds the mirror is in the "centered" position when you put the new mirror on. That is, halfway between maximum up, maximum down, maximum left and maximum right.

I didn't do this and as a result my mirror doesn't raise up quite far enough to be easy to see (I can move in manually but then I lose the ability to maneuver it with the motor.) It is very easy to move the backing plate accidentally so make sure it's centered before you stick on the new mirror.

If your replacement mirror is like mine, it will have a peel-and-stick on the back. After making sure you've removed all the old sticky from the old mirror, plug the wire for the heater in, re-center the mirror backing plate and then peel off the sticky and stick on the new mirror. I'd say hold it for about 30 seconds and you should be good!

I acutally did mine a few weeks ago. As the guy stated above make sure the backplate is in the center when you put mirror back on, mine is not but luckily it sits just where i need it to so no need to adjust it much with the motor. THe only pain is getting the old mirror off b/c it sticks to the back plate really well. Goodluck its pretty easy once ya get the old mirror off.

The mirror I purchased has no little wire lead. I've looked at a couple of OEM Toyota part sites but cannot find such an item.

Do you happen to have the Toyota part number?
