Regarding the trade.... Go for it man. These are all pretty impractical vehicles anyway that are mainly toys for us. If you're going to spend $30k+ on a fun vehicle you may as well really enjoy it. If you can afford it that is.

If we are going to pretend to be making personal financial recommendations.... You should sell the Limited and buy a ten year old Honda Civic with manual everything.

When I was looking in Arkansas, used SR5 premiums were unicorns.. and every premium I found (2 in the entire state), were WAY over priced. There were a lot more TRDs than SR5 Premiums when I was looking.. obviously the TRDs were priced high too.

I bought mine in Dallas, last month. Traded my Tundra that I owed nothing on, and got out the door with a 2017 SR5 Premium certified pre-owned with 32k miles, for $21k after trade in. They had it listed at $28.9k before taxes. I think after taxes and service contract, it was like $33k.

I took my 4Runner to the local Arkansas Toyota dealership to see what they'd give me for mine, and they said they'd give me $27k on the spot. I figure that is about a $4k appreciation, from what the original owner got on their trade when trading it in, in Dallas. And, there is no doubt that they'd have my 4Runner sold in less than a day, if I traded it in. I actually thought about it.. because they have a SWEET Lexus GX 470 up there that has my name on it.

This whole conversation is mute. $6k means nothing without having specifics of the contract they signed originally and what those conditions are as well as where are they now? Ie What did they originally finance? What do they owe now?

So you are actually talking about it costing $8 to $9K to get into the 18 TRD from the 17 Limited. I cannot see where that is a good deal.



I traded my FJ at the same dealer I bought it at to get into my TRD Pro. But it was a 5 year old vehicle in good condition. I only lost $5K (from what I paid for it new) on a 5 year old FJ.



What options of the TRD are you missing on your Limited? Suspension? Maybe it would be cheaper for you to modify your Limited to get some of the options you are desiring.

Crawl control,multiple terrain selections and rear locker.
I wonder if my Ltd can be as capable as a trd with a King or Icon stage lift when off roading.

I think he means he's out 2-3k to walk out with it. The Limited had a higher price than the TRD, he said OR, not PRO. So he's down $6k from the Limited price, but the TRD is $3k off the Limited's price, and he'd have to pay the other $3k.

Carmax offered me $1,500 less than I paid with 9k miles on my 17. I was curious about the trade in value and I see them selling TRD Off Road premiums and Trails for more. I do think the Limited and SR5 do take a harder hit.

Yeah,I think Toyota realized that trd would be sold more quickly than the other two trims.

Another thing to think about, you've presumably taken a $6k hit on the Limited already. If you drive it for another 5-6 months, I doubt that # would change at all. You are pretty low mileage, which doesn't help matters in that they have to discount it below what they are selling new 18s for, and then still make a profit, so that is where your trade in value is coming from.



Drive it a little longer for free and do the deal in July when they are hurting for sales, that is if you can find a truck worth trading it on.

Our Limited will be paid off in about one year. After getting the sr5 4runner I realize how bad the Limited rides in the city. We are considering trading or selling it but I really like the all time 4wd for her. It only gas 24k and is 2015. I agree, potholes bad, highway good.

I am sure we will keep it, though. One less car payment.

I traded a 2016 SR5 2WD for a 2017 TRDOR 4WD after having it about a year. Lost $3800 off the price I paid for the SR5. I paid stupid tax because I was impatient and bought the 2WD model even though I really wanted the 4WD. But, I’m very happy now even though my wallet is a bit lighter.

You sure about the tax? At least in CA, you only pay tax on what you pay for the new car outside of, or minus the trade in value. So if your trade is high value you pay less tax.

Why don't you just change out the suspension? Cheaper than a new truck. How many miles do you have on the 4R Ltd?
