Has anyone tried the Goodyear Authority?

Like the title says, has anyone tried the Goodyear Authority tires? They look like a Duratrac with more of an all-terrain pattern. For awhile I had only seen them at Wal-Mart (which made me a little iffy), but then a buddy of mine said they got a shipment in at Discount Tire. He is the manager there and said they look like a nice tire but hasnt had any experience with them yet, as they just came off the truck.

They look good, are a legit Goodyear tire made in America, and are priced right at about $175/tire for a 265/75R16.

What do you think? Anyone have first hand experience...and/or pics :)

They're made by Goodyear for Walmart. Walmart makes it's money by selling a huge amount of low-quality products with minimal markup. Do the math.

I'd rather have Treadwrights, and I don't want those either. Don't skimp on tires, man.
 
Good news ... Treadwright now produces a bead-to-bead retread. Now every part of the tire is brand new!! No more excuses.

To some extent, I agree. I know how/why Wal-Mart makes its money, however, there are some products that they sell that are not low quality. I can buy an iPad or iPod from Wal-Mart and I believe that I would be getting the same product as I would if I were to purchase directly from Apple. I believe both Apple and Goodyear are large enough companies that would not risk their reputation by selling a cheap product to Wal-Mart. Part of the reason I am more interested is because they now sell them at Discount Tire, which is a pretty reputable tire source.

My question was about this specific Goodyear tire, not anyones personal opinion on Wal-Mart's business practices. If you happen to know exactly why this tire is of low quality, by all means, let me know.
 
I had the duratracs just before I got the authorities. I ran the duratracs down to the wires and loved them. Awesome traction in a huge variety of terrain. The authorities aren't quite as good of a tire, especially on ice, but they are close. I have used them on all of the same terrain and conditions I used the duratracs on. I can notice a difference, but it isn't much of a difference. In deep snow, mud, snowpack, ice, sand, rock, etc., they perform really well. I still think the duratracs are the best tire I have ever owned, but the authorities are a good tire too. So far, they seem to wear pretty much the same. I got just over 50K out of my duratracs and I think I'll get about the same out of the authorities. I have about half tread left and about 30K on them now. I got the authorities to save money and I don't regret that decision at all now that I've had them. I also run them on our Tacoma. We drive both our 4runner and Tacoma mostly on the highway/town, but we are offroad probably 30% of the time. I rotate tires regularly as well. Hope that helps.
 
When I looked at them at WAlmart I felt the sidewall was thinner than the Goodyear MT they had setting there. Noticeably thinner that moved on to looking at other tires. Maybe it would have been perfectly ok. But I guess I like the feel of the BFG sidewalls.
 
How much cheaper are they than the Duratracs?

I'm also looking into the Falken Rocky Mtn ATS as a cheaper alternative if the GYs get too pricey.
 
The Falkens look nice. But not sure I would want to use them in the snow heading to breck in a storm. Doesn't have much for sipes
