Hasn't even sold and I am starting to regret it...

I have my truck listed in the classifieds on this site http://www.toyota-4runner.org/sale-vehicles/112109-fs-1988-4runner.html and on CL.

I have had about 8 solid hits from CL and have been emailing info about my truck to them. As I am "selling" the finer points of the truck, I am realizing I am starting to miss the truck already LOL.

How many of you have sold your classic T4R and regretted it?

I had wanted a 3rd Gen for years, and ended up getting my '88 last summer. I got it mainly because I could afford it as a good practice vehicle for driving a manual (sadly I was not confident in my limited time I have had practice on a manual). I needed practice because I was going to be renting a manual in Europe to drive through the Alps. I figured I would need all the practice I could get, and since my everyday drive was an auto, an older model 4Runner was about the best vehicle I could get for under $3000. On top of that, I always thought the classics were very cool and maybe I could figure out a way to restore it after the trip.

Sadly, the funds are not there to restore the truck anytime soon, and with two dogs, a canoe and a boat with a trailer, I may need to move back to the 3rd gen search soon. Just can't convince the wife to let me have 1 or 2 extra cars (crazy huh???)...

Anyway, sorry for the rant. All of you who have parted with your old 4Runners I am sure can relate. I really think this will go down as one of my favorite vehicles of all time.

My current runner is my first and only first gen but I know the feeling. I had an 03 4runner that I loved. I traded it in on a 2010 Tundra. I love the truck but I still miss my 03 runner.

The feeling comes and goes but you'll find another that you will enjoy just as much.

I had a modded 05 that I totalled (pay your insurance kiddies) that I miss a lot but my 87 definitely satisfies in a different kind of way. I would've loved to have both but hey........
Ive only ever heard regrets from those who sold theirs, classics especially!!

I have pondered selling the beast, but then I drive it again and remind myself just how much fun it is to mob on it.

The previous owner is always whining he should have never sold it, and how he has considered trying to buy it back from me, I laugh at him. (he is also my best friend)

My original '86 was a pile (ton's of problems, PO didn't care for it), and I traded it for a Wrangler after the head gasket went for a 2nd time. While I liked the soft top, I never stopped regretting it.

I wasn't happy until I bought my current one.

Granted, I'm a creature of habit. I find what I like and stick with it. I've owned two 1st gen 4Runners, and three 4th gen VW Jettas.

I miss it already.

I've only been driving for a short time, but i started with an 83 bronco full sized and drove it for a year. It was an awesome truck but with a v8 came high gas prices meant a bad time for filling up. Switched to a 91 civic (great gas mileage was my only reason) and then regretted it. This past summer i worked hard on the construction site and did a lot of thinking and shopping around. Didn't find what i was looking for until the day i stepped onto the lot that had my 94 4runner. Bought it and been driving it for nearly 8 months. It's had it's fair share of issues, hg (whoever did the replace WAY overtorqued the bolts which caused the gasket fo fail), due to movement the injectors leaked, etc. But by far it's the best of everything i wanted. Bigger but not to big like the bronco, nice v6 in the middle of an I4 and v8. The truck is just amazing to me, i wouldn't sell or trade it for the world. Just my .02 buddy, good luck

I have owned about 25 different vehicles and my 4runner has stayed with me the longest. I did put it up for sale once, but after not getting any hits off craigslist I found out it had been flagged for removal (still think my friends flagged it). As it turns out, I'm really happy it didn't go. When it does go (get bigger Land Cruiser possibly) I think it will be a sad day. Good luck if you do go through with it.
