Hatch Make Over

Over the past couple of weeks I have been working on re-painting the gold badges and color matching the license plate surround. I took pictures of the project so I though I would post them and see what you guys think.

I'm very happy with the results, however, the color matched paint does not match. It is close but not exact. I still think it looks good. I also got a bit of orange peel affect with the clear coat. I suspect it might have been a little too humid. Great mod and well worth the time. It looks much cleaner.

want to share a few more details on number of coats and where you got the paint?
I was considering something similar and ill be working with the same color.

I bought the primer, base, and clear from automotive touch up in regular spray paint cans for $55. (That included a jar of brush touch up also) 3 coats of primer, 4 coats of base and clear. I suspect the paint is not an exact match because the truck is 13 years old. The original paint is slightly lighter. When spraying the clear be sure the humidity is low and the temp is high enough and let it cure on its own. I used a hair dryer to lessen the time between coats. I probably shouldn't have done that. I was able to wet sand and buff most of the orange peel out, but it's still visible up close. Thanks for the compliments.

I painted my bezel too. If you get the paint mixed, it will match. Your hatch looks 100% better then before.

JMO, I would have put the logo to the side though...

Here is mine.

Looks good! Like yours too, Singtoe. I'm not sure whether I'm going to repaint my bezel gunmetal to match my new rims or paint it white to match the body. I was already planning on using just the Toyota symbol and leaving the rest of the badges off and then I saw SKIDMRK's. I kinda like the clean/uncluttered look. JMO
