Haters

Well everyone is entitled to their opinions. What's great about this board is that people can voice their opinions, some you like some you won't.

That's great, your going to keep people's trash talk around for all to enjoy? This is the internet not the United Nations.

Good point, as a moderator we have a fine line, we want people to give their opinions, but on our rules we ask that 1.) No whiners and 2.) No personal attacks.

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?threadid=5809

On the thread you pointed out, the member didn't like it much here and we stopped his membership and closed the thread. But we didn't delete it.

Recently one member asked how we like his rig, it had 20" wheels. I whinced a little when I saw a negative response. I think we should give some latitude to members, but we step in when it gets out of hand.

You know when we get the 5th generation 4Runner in 2009? or whenever, somone will complain that no one takes their 4Runner out in the mud like the old 4th generation models.

Fine line? That's way over the line. I see the problem with the hardcore offroad rednecks, somebody should probably try to keep their 'enthusiasm' in check and try not to scare off to many customers so the 5th gen will actually get built.

Why don't you guys delete the hater threads? I like this board and shitheads like this need to be nullified:

I see your point but I thought that thread was hilarious so I left it up after moving it to Comments. It's an excellent example of someone who takes this board WAAAY to seriously.

Peter, when the 5th gen comes out I'm sure we'll have folks bitching about how we're "biased" against 4th gens :D

I thought it was:

Rule 1. Do not talk about T4R.ORG
Rule 2. Do Not talk about T4R.ORG

???

Yes it is the internet and not the UN, but we have better leaders than the UN at T4R so we don't need to worry about it. If GG and the other mods want to get rid of it then so be it. Just enjoy your T4R how you like it, not how someone else wants everyone else to like it.

that negative response would have been from me.

the guy posted pictures of his new wheels and asked what people thought. so i replied. if you are going to post pictures on the internet you have to be ready for the negatives. everyone doesn't like the same thing. thats the beauty of this country, you dont' have to agree on everything.

if they guy hadn't asked for people's opinions then i wouldn't have said anything.

on a different note (more related to this thread) wouldn't jjjheimer's comments be considered whinning? he makes a thread complaining about another thread and why the mods let it sit there. just curious. ;)

This thread started off as a question to the mods with the aim of better understanding where their stand on this kind of post. The rules are vague and this board is clearly a free-for-all.

not trying to start anything at all, just trying to get a laugh

I think you will find that Only1Stegall was what is referred to as a "Troll" - unfortunately there are some people who like to hit forums and just try to stir up trouble and that is pretty much what I think was going on there - its a testament to this forum that nobody rose to the bait and gave him the satisfaction he wanted.

Which brings us to my point again - why leave this on the board?

ish - that's good, I tempered my initial reaction :)

I figured it went without saying but I"ll add a statement to the rules clarifying that determinations on the issue of whining shall be in the sole and absolute discretion of the admins / mods :D

Yes, I was talking about your post, but like you said the person asked how we liked his rig. I also thought your reply was short and to the point.

Now about whining, most people on the board are doing a great job, but sometimes people say things that we might not agree with. When jjjheimer says we are a free for all, I would say we like different opinions, but if something gets out of hand we asked for people to cool it down. So we do monitor this board, but we tread lightly. I have deleted only a few posts and I personally have never banned anyone. I have sent quite a few PM (Private Messages) though.

Speaking of banning I was happy to see we're approaching the 2,500 member milestone today - until I realized that Thai has probably banned a couple dozen of them :D When you send your warning PMs you could play good cop / bad cop (e.g. "Look man, I personally don't have a problem with your post - but I can tell you that if Thai sees it he might ban your ass for whining - so take my advice and knock it off" :p )

I don't ban people...i just help them make their decision about leaving sooner....:D

BTW, i have only banned 2 people since the beginning...both for good reasons.

If you were so concerned you should have PM'd one of us instead of putting it out in public.

I had a set of Trucknutz on my trailer hitch, I went to the library last week and some a$$hole ripped it off alongwith breaking my rear window wiper assembly. Total cost to replace the wiper assembly is $311, that's not includes labor to install. Now that's a Hater. So y'all need to chill out, at least nothing bad happened to you. :-(
