Have I become a 4Runner snob?!

Ok, I need an objective opinion (but I'll settle for what I can get here ;-) ).

I bought my 4Runner in January. Now for some reason, I have become judgmental about every other SUV I see on the road. I look down my nose at mere cross-overs. I scoff at Land Rovers and Jeeps for their lack of reliability. As to others, I think about how much more off road performance my 4Runner can muster. I smile knowingly at other 4Runners or Land Cruisers and Sequoias.

Am I a full blown 4Runner snob after only four months? HELP!

when you drive past some Heep GC or Land Rover that's pulled to the side of teh road with the hood up....you might even stop and offer to help with some advice...like "You should have bought a Toyota" I know that would be greatly appreciated especially in a heavy downpour or in a blinding snowstorm, or blistering hot sun in the middle of Hwy 40 between Baker and Las Vegas in the middle of the Mojave Desert......

Try not to mumble "Great Unwashed!" when some zitfaced imbecile rolls past you with a loud rumble form his oh so proud 44" Super Boggers and 18" lift, blasting Toby Keith singing baout putting some boot up some butt.....just roll up your windows and increase the volume on Vivaldi.....

Thats normal behavior in my perspective. And it only gets worse if you get a second Toyota. For me when I got my Landcruiser it got really bad, so bad my two year old sons first words were Landcruiser and 4runner.

I don't see anything wrong with that. I'm the same way. If I see an SUV that might have an edge on my 4Runner, I look up the info and then breathe a sigh of relief.

I know the feeling, my friend was just telling me he can get a pre-used 03 X5 3.0 with 20k for about just under $40k

I told him afew things and mentioned 4Runner many times, what it came down to was I was just tryin to point out a much better price and a vehicle that will not be plagued with countless problems, the hours he works he can not be held down with a vehicle that has questionable reliability even if they offer loaners:

I do like other stuff but the 4Runner makes it so hard to justify a non 4Runner:

I don't really look down upon anything. The reason I chose the 4Runner is because it had most of the features that appealed to me and fit me best. Other people buy what appeals to them, and I am not really in any position to judge what they need or want.

That is perfectly normal. That is what happens when you buy such a well made and reliable vehicle. When you have that combined with a really fun truck to drive, what do you expect?

Edge, questionable reliability is stating it mildly. The X5 may drive like a sports car and have the BMW name, but they live in the shop. My parents have had so many problems with their X5's. It got to the point where they couldn't take it anymore. They actually like the 4Runner better than the X5!

Also, there are an increasing number of Toyota dealer that are offering courtesy loaners. My dealer gives me a loaner when I need one.

So what is your reaction to a H1 with lockers all around and in-line deflation/inflation systems for all tires? I've been in the H1's in Mojave and Moab, and with the exception of their width (MASSIVE) nothing can stop 'em (even chemical warfare if you choose that paint option).

I'm still smug thinking I could buy probably THREE 4runners for the price of one H1. And I'm sure the reliability (and getting them serviced) probably sucks.

Oh and I'm sure on-road the H1's are not very nice.

I've never owned a BMW but the last 1 I would want to own is an X5, I'd take the 4.8 but other then that I'd pass maybe not even a 4.8, I try not to bash BMW or any other make but I listen, read and try to stay informed, all I know about BMW is that some people I know own them and they have no complaints, but it's not uncommon to hear BMW owners say the car is in the shop:

I read a report last year that stated that the new 7 series bimmers are as reliable as 8 year old LS400s.

I just experienced proof of Land Rover's lack of reliability, when I went out to get lunch today I got stuck behind a Freelander that broke down at the light.

I was thinking the same thing as the rest of you, should have bought a Toyota. Even my 4R's exhaust note sounded smug as I motored past.

I'm not even a 4Runner owner yet and I've been looking at the other SUV's and comparing them to my soon to be with some "slight" smugness. :

I've been comparing their handling on & offroad, their features, their reliability, and their "presence".

In every case, the 4Runner wins. :bouncy2:

I can hardly wait until it gets here. :arrow:

I agree with you guys. When I think about the time when I was shopping for a new suv, I can't believe that I even considered the other vehicles for the purchase (X5, RX330, FX35, MDX & Pilot). It's a no brainer now when I think about it!
