Having trouble pulling CEL codes from ECU

I bought ELM 327 OBDII Blutooth scanner to use with the Torque app to run my CEL codes and get to the bottom of my misfiring problem, is there a trick to pulling codes from these things? My phone says it cant connect to the ECU?? I know the scanner works because a ran the the codes in my dads 02 Tacoma and it worked perfect. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not 100% sure if it's the same with toyota, but on a lot of cars, if the cig lighter fuse is blown, you can't access info from the OBD-II port.

Try with the engine running if you havent yet. I have one of those cheap BT readers too and it or my Torque app likes the engine to be running. On a side note, I just pulled a P0300, P0301, and P0302 - misfire codes. Fixed with new plugs and wires.

Actually, our trucks have a separate 7.5A OBD fuse in the engine junction box. Full circuitry on page 62 in the attached. I'm pretty sure cig lighter power is not involved.

There were two fuses in the fuse box inside the truck that said OBD on them and both were not blown, is there another fuse somewhere?

You need a code reader of some sort, if you have a Android phone you can get a app called Torque and buy a Bluetooth code reader or you could just bring it to a auto parts store and have them run the codes with one of there computers

If you have an iPhone it won't work with Bluetooth. They make a wifi version that does.

Look into ScanGage II tool. It mounts in-car and gives you real time info. I run one, and it's been a life saver.

Ok, i found OBD 7.5 fuse and its not blown. I dont know what to do next, are there any other things that could cause a OBD to not let me run codes?

It's not compressed--don't use winrar, just Acrobat Reader...

THANK YOU!!!!! I tried OBD car doctor and it worked great!!!! I have a misfire on cyl 6 and a bank1 sensor 2 o2 sensor bad

Really glad to hear that worked for you. :reddance:
Its a great app and I prefer the layout of info to all the other apps I have tried. Its straight forward and easy to use.
I also like that you can disconnect from the devices bluetooth and then close the app. This way I know I wont disconnect the OBD reader while it is in the middle of some process and potential get it frozen there.
Now how are we going to fix that misfire? Hope its something simple like old plugs.

As for the misfire....well lets just say its been a up hill battle for a while now, i replaced plugs and wires and all 3 coil packs so at this point i am going to say its a bad/clogged injector
