Hawaii Runner Build Thread

Hey t4r,
This runner is my second 4runner. I previously owned a 99' 4runner right after high school graduation, but didnt end up keeping it long and went right back to the world of imports. After a while I realized I'm tired of racing, breaking, spending money, to only repeat it again.





I then got a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I lifted, and long armed it. It was a pretty interesting experience with it being my first straight axle, but it sure taught me a lot.




Alright, onto the real reason of this thread.
I always knew I wanted and needed another 4runner, as soon as I saw my opportunity, I sold the Jeep and made my move to buy my neighbors one. Its a 1997, and they bought it brand new, so I would see it everyday throughout my life.

When I bought it in Feb 2013, it came with Bilstein 5100's, OME 881, 891's, welded panhard bar drop bracket, 2" BL, some cheap Pro Comp 16" rims, cheap mud terrains, and with a sport hood. I bought it with 108,xxx miles.

I use this runner to fish, hunt, camp, and just explore. By all means its nothing hardcore like what the mainland has to offer, but I wanted to build something thats completely practical and functional, without getting impractical, or something there is no point in (come on, I know you've all seen other Hawaii builds with 12" lifts, and 31" tires stretched on 12 wide rims lol)

Looks like the BI to me. In any case, I travel to Honolulu 6-7 times a year and I have family there, I swear it's the Toyota Tacoma capitol of the world, 99% are PreRunners though.

It's not nice to post pictures like that in the middle of January when some of us are stuck under this for 6 more months.

All joking aside, you truck looks like it's perfectly set up for what Hawaii has to offer.

Big Island. North Shore is getting some big waves this week! 35 footers, almost enough to hold the Eddie Would Go Tourney..

Good eye sir, good eye. I just turned 21 during that time and everytime I would be camping, I wouldnt know where the last place I put my bottle opener, so I decided to put one on the Jeep, lol. Cant lose that one!

Ordered black dash mat and seat covers. Cant stand all the blue interior...

Also been looking at doing limit straps soon since my front sway bar broke couple months back, and looking for a matching spare rim. I can get the rim for 103, but shipping is about 75 bucks to Hawaii lol.

Oh! I found my ol DLSR camera as well! I finally can take some photo's with decent clarity and not from my iphone anymore. Stay tuned....

The signature pic is 3yrs old, you are correct brahda on the Satoshi grill. I need to up date the picture I just like that shot coming up the trail. Not trying to show off... Just puffing the chest. Ahhh way no ka oi

Ohana throughout the isles mostly on Oahu, Honolulu PAPAKOLEA; PAUOA VALLEY area. Traveled a lot....grew up in military Ohana. We have been to the big isle to stretch the legs numerous times. As you know, it's crowded on Oahu. Work took me to the mainland, yet benefits allow for frequent ventures home. Miss the Ono grinds, nothing like it, right!

Only nice thing about hea iz da mountainz are 4 x da size wit beautiful views. Wheeling hea iz also different den home. Gotta gas up befo and depends wea u go gotta bring an extra 5 gal. Dis is actually goin b my 1st IFS Build. Lucky yoz wuz already lifted. One less step fo u do. Bumbai wen I go visit FBI, maybe can wheel/fish. Get choke Ohana in Waimea, Hilo, & Puna! Ahh I see. Thats awesome that you got to travel a lot, I havent traveled much and majority of the time that I did travel, was for sports, which sucked cause I could never really venture out and explore the area. Good that you come back often! LMK when you do, first thing we gotta do is hook you up with a poke bowl! lol

Haha, well it isnt nice climate at the moment, current cold front just stalled out over the entire state. You should make a build thread on your runner bro, I wouldnt mind seeing the scenery, I'm always a sucker for expedition pics.
LOL, I was also glad it came lifted, but had to redo the entire rear lift cause 891s no longer provided any lift and the runner became saggy diaper, which you know, is a no-go. Hahaha.

Found a before pic - this is what she looked like when I first bought it - and what she looks like now 11 months into the build.

I also plan on painting, or plasti-dipping that weird looking green chrome piece on my front bumper. Small touches for now, until I decide what I really want to do about my front end. (Front bumper, limit straps, manual locking hubs, or save for SAS w/ coilovers).

Rajah dat! Just got da truck last Thursday. Only thing I did wuz interior 99-02 upgrades. Next, will be the lift and armor. Hopefully within a months period I will be doing the outside. Afta dat I will do a writeup. Yo thread iz givin me da bug.
