Just getting started but wanted to try a picture post since the Photo Bucket crap hit the fan to see if it works through tiny pic. Notice I resized the picture so it wasn't LIFE SIZE! I really hate reading a post that I have to scan side to side. PINR!!!
I choose this Hayden 698 for size and it has an internal devise that is to by-pass the cooler until it has some heat is in the fluid. Cold fluid isn't good either. I will plumb it in-series after the OEM cooler.
Got the cooler itself installed. I have run the lines inside to the engine bay and secured by the battery for the time being. Planning on a full transmission flush and will finish the plumbing then when I drop the pan for inspection. No tranny problems just want to take a look after 94,000 miles.
Cooler positioned nice on the lower radiator support and used the upright to support the top of the cooler. Installing in this position keeps it about an inch off of the a/c condenser. Used fuel injection clamps to secure the transmission hoses. They tend not the loosen and don't cut into the line and offer full circle clamping. I use them where ever I can. Finding a well made Fuel injection clamp is challenging so don't fall for the cheap garbage!
Little more progress yesterday. Added some 3/4 heater hose to the lines to help in areas were chaffing was a possibility. Also added a large ring grommet to radiator core support hole where the OEM cooler lines run through. Next up when time allows jack stands and pull the trans pan for inspection and full flush and with new fluid.
Alright got to finish the install today!
Pulled the trans and found a pretty clean pan for 95,000 miles.
Came up with a low pressure oil transfer pump that I used the pump the fluid back through the cooler return circuit. When I dropped the pan there was about 4.5 quarts that was in the pan when I finished. Hooked up the pump to the return line and reinstalled the 4.5 quarts through that line. Started the truck and let it pump out 2 quart through the cooler feed line. I did 2 quarts at a time. 2 out 2 in until it what was coming out was fairly clean. The 95,000 mile fluid wasn't real dark black. It was dark but still red. I ended up taking out 16 quarts and put in 17 to allow for the new cooler and allow for being able to set the level once I got it up temp. I use the Torque app on my smart phone and can monitor converter and transmission pan temps. Corrected level and road tested about 6 miles and rechecked new connections. :reddance: All done with the new cooler add-on and flush.
