Hazy windshield update

Well I posted a couple weeks ago about a hazy windshield and it is still there. I tried Stoner's invisible glass, bon ami, windex, rain x (which I finally got off), newspaper, paper towel, microfiber, new wipers etc and the haze is still there when using wipers. It is very visible at night and makes night time driving difficult in the rain.

Any ideas...is this something that I should go to the dealer for i.e. warranty replacement?

I dont know how my friends 16 year old car that hasnt been washed in over a year and seen no special windshield treatment has flawless wipers in the rain.

wash car first, then invisible glass cleaner on the window, then rain x, thats what u have to do, after that it wont haze, it might be ur wipers, switch them out with piaa.

I did that already and already spent $40 on new Bosh Excel + Wipers. However I went to NAPA and he said whatever was causing the haze might still be on the wipers..i tried cleaning them with cloth/windex should I go for new blades or the PIAA Super Silicone wipers?

No, it instantly appears after a pass from the wiper and disappears within a second.

if u still have haze after the wipers wipe, it means u have some grease/wax on the blades.

if the haze appear on direct sunlight i bet, its normal. its normal to see it for a second if ur car is directly insunlight

Unfortunately that's what Im thinking. Ill take off these blades. Go nuts with the glass cleaner/windex and get new blades. I am NOT re-applying Rain-X.

yes i use my wipers, only if i needed to, i drive fast enough that the water moves up.
i have no haze after each wipe at night.
i have stock wipers, truck was bought on 12/24/07

Well I gave it one last go today. Got new Bosh Icon wipers. Re-Cleaned the windshield with Windex and Stoner's Invisible Glass about 10x. It appears to be working. I made sure to put the new wipers on until after I did all the cleaning. With my initial tests of just throwing tap water on the windshield the hazing is almost completely gone. It is 98% better. We will see how they work on Wednesday when I drive about an hour in the rain. So after about $100 in wipers and cleaners I got it.

If this doesnt work, going to have to go to the stealer and hopefully get a new windshield.

Try cleaning the wiper blades with rubbing alcohol.

I have heard that rubbing alcohol will shorten the life of your blades, causing the rubber to crack and dry out. However, this might isolate the hazing issue. I wouldn't try it on your nice new Icon blades though.

I can't rave about them yet, we will see tomorrow in the rain. I had one pair and the really didnt do too much for me.

If this windshield is not perfect tomorrow im bringing it to the dealer....you think ill get a warranty replacement windshield?

This literature on my 07 Limited says that the windshield has a coating that dissipates rain. I assume that it is treated with a rather permanent form of RainX.

You are probably just seeing the effects of the wipers being a bit nasty and the windshield being treated.

Mine does this sometimes, but not always. Usually a good cleaning takes care of it.

You are probably just seeing the effects of the wipers being a bit nasty and the windshield being treated.

Mine does this sometimes, but not always. Usually a good cleaning takes care of it.

I'm new around here and have been catching up on threads, and I just came across this.

I had the same problem with my '00XJ (which at one time had PIAA wiper blades,) my wife's old Civic, and for a little while my 07 4Runner. The common denominator with the Jeep and the Civic is that they were both in two different shady repair shops, so some kind of crap probably got on the glass. On the XJ and Civic I tried every kind of solvent I could think of, including brake cleaner, diesel, WD-40, as well as the usual stuff. I even tried rubbing compound and fine steel wool. What worked the best, but never fully removed the stuff from either was Goo-Gone. The stuff was completely invisible when the glass was dry and clean, but appeared when wet. I eventually "got caught in a bad thunderstorm" and the windshield was "cracked by a falling branch" so my windshield was replaced by other means.

I wasn't crazy, several body shops and a glass place saw the film too.

On my 4Runner, the film wasn't as tenacious, and I feel it was just something from the factory because when wet I could make out clean spots that formed this- "L/NN" right on the driver's side of the windshield. A vigorous cleaning with Bon Ami and it was much better, then eventually went away.

The common factor in all three vehicles was that there were several construction projects going on within a quarter mile of my house for a few years, and there was always a thin coating of fine brown dust on everything for a long time. So I'm sure that had something to do with it.

Also, I now only use Bosch wiper blades, and replace them three times a year.
