HD Tuner Problems-Please Help

I've got a 2010 SR5 with standard JBL speakers. Replaced the OEM radio with Pioneer navigation system: AVIC-F900BT. Added HD tuner and what a disappointment! BAD reception...few stations on HD radio...lots of static on some stations; others OK.

I had the newer Pioneer unit AVIC X920 and had GREAT HD reception but not with the F900.

I'm not AE savvy...could the installer have hooked up the antenna improperly? Is there a way to rectify the poor HD reception?

Assuming that the 5th gen uses diversity antennas like the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen 4Runners (not sure about the 1st gen) then it could be a problem with the antennas. It's pretty common for installers to overlook connecting the 2nd antenna which degrades reception significantly.

Thanks much for the insight. You've offered so much more than the installer or Toyota dealer (who suggested I remove the whole Pioneer unit and send it back!). I'll bring up the diversity antenna and maybe broach the idea of a booster. thanks again!
