We finished the tear down on the engine today for a leaking gasket in #6 cylinder. There are a couple of good write-ups on here, but I have a few photos of the process.
So far not to terribly bad. Lost a bolt and a 12mm socket, possibly in the frame. The bolts holding the cam gears on were not nearly as bad as I thought, but there were two of us, one on each wrench. We were able to get the crank bolt out fairly easily with a Milwaukee impact. The bolts on the cooling tubes on the backs of the heads were a bit of a pain, probably more fun to try to get back in. Also found out the bottom pulley has bad bearings. We're going to replace the bearings in all of the pulleys I think. We broke one stud on the valve covers and had to use an easy-out on one of the manifold nuts, going to replace all of the studs there as well.
We like to put bolts back in where they came from instead of bagging them where possible.
Heads are going to machine shop in the morning, then in a week or two back together.
After taking the water pump off the pump and the passages looked like new. There was a little crud on the weep hole of the water pump. I planned on replacing it as well, Asin for $79 on rockauto.

Only take out the 10 bolts, ignore the security torx.
We didn't need to take that tube out.
