So heres my situation. Im swapping my doug thorley headers off my 2014 fj to my trd pro and adding a urd y pipe and hi tuck exhaust. My question is do i need to replace the gaskets for the headers both stock and a/m or can i reuse them?

thanks!

Yes, but why?

The gaskets cannot cost that much unless you are on Mars.

New gaskets are cheap peace of mind.

i was jus wondering, its not a big deal i was just told if the gaskets are metal theres no need to buy new ones, and im not sure if oem or theres a.m gaskets that are better

Having just done a bunch of research into the exhaust before ordering mine here's some info. Yes Toyota used metal gaskets between the manifold and y-pipe. However, they were designed as crush gaskets, meaning that properly torquing the y-pipe to the manifold will crush (and slightly deform) the metal gasket in order to ensure a seal. Reusing a crushed gasket will likely end up with an exhaust leak. You could try to over-torque the bolts if you like to see if the gasket would crush more making the seal, but that's iffy at best. Why not just spend the money and replace the gaskets? You can check a box when you order the URD Y-pipe to add the pair of gaskets for a whopping $10.
As for the gasket between the manifold and head, yes it's more expensive, but that should be replaced as well for the same reasons and more. An exhaust leak into the engine compartment ahead of the cat and AFR/O2 sensor means your mixture isn't going to be correct. Not to mention you're heating up your engine compartment, and not everything in there tolerates heat well.

where should i order that gasket?

I've installed headers on many vehicles. Unless the metal gaskets look deformed. It is not a problem at all to reuse. overlap at the outter parts of the flange won't matter and I'm sure the inner ports match up..

Metal exhaust gaskets have a small ridge presed into them, and that gets crushed when torqued. Buy the new gaskets.

Can you give us a review of these headers once install is complete? How much performance does it add? How much engine noise does it add?
