Headlamp replacement options

OP, I did not read the page and a half of responses.

I just painted my housings to match my silver millennium paint. You can remove these, separate them, scuff with 600 grit, polish lenses and make them look reconditioned for under $15. Grey RTV to match original stuff, heat it in the oven for 8-10 minutes @ 200 degree's an add a nice bead in addition to factory stuff on re-assembly.

I bought Cougar Motor LED's off a recommendation I read on these forum's. They run about $55 for the set, plug into factory connector an you're DONE. I have gotten high beamed ONCE in 5 months now, the factory (08' in my case) headlights project them excellent, I didn't adjust a thing and visibility is improved MASSIVELY an anyone who wants to say you will blind people are incorrect in my experience. I usually pay for retrofit stuff, but in this case, I spent $55 instead of $500 and couldn't complain if I tried about my visibility an performance of the lights.

I don't really have the time to futz around with rebuilding something myself unfortunately or building something from scratch. Basically I want to buy a GOOD product, install it and be done with it. I'm all for spending the money for a GOOD and CORRECT product for the job and being done with it. Whether that means OEM or Third Party, whatever.

Based on what you've said, I think your best option would be to spend the little time it would take to do the O6+ style headlights, and get true OEM ones, and just drop those in... That way you spend an hour or 2 just removing the old ones and putting in the new 06+ ones. This will be your best "alittle of work once, then I'll never have to mess with it again"

Then with the projectors you can put whatever LED/HID bulbs in that you want, which you couldn't do with the 05' reflector lights bc of the glare it'd cause other drivers. Plus the little plastic piece, I'd assume it woudn't be TOO expensive (like under $30?) to get it color matched to your 4runner if need be

I'd only get a 3rd party/aftermarket lights if I was opening them up and upgrading all the components (so you're just using the 3rd party housing/lens really)

Otherwise, both my 3rd gen's were retrofit, I won't be bothering with this rig.
