Headlight Adjustment

I got some new bulbs about a month ago and noticed the beams are off one is lower than the other. I tried moving it around to correct this but it still is off center. How do you fix this?

is the bulb in the housing correctly?

there are 2 weird cream colored plastic pice with teeth on one side and i believe a 10mm nut on the other, adjusting those nuts will move the light beam up and down and the other will move it left and right. i can'nt remember what ones move what way but i bet someone can tell you. good luck

If your driver side beam is lower than your passenger side beam, then there's nothing to fix. The lights were mounted in this fashion from the factory as to not blind oncoming traffic at night.


However, if you need to make an adjustment, here's how:

You can use a small 10mm socket to adjust the bottom screw. (The bottom screw raises or lowers the beam.) With the headlights installed, simply reach thru the engine bay and tighten or loosen the plastic mounting nut as needed. Very easy.

To move the beam from side to side, you'll need a small flat head screwdriver to turn the "teeth" on the top plastic adjusting nut. This takes time, b/c there's not much room to crank the teeth a lot at once. (To aim this top nut quicker, you could always take the light out of the plastic bracket and adjust it with your 10mm socket. Only problem with that is, you would have to reinstall the light in your 4Runner and see how close you got it.)
