Headlight aiming

I am about to lose my mind over this...and yes, before I get flamed, I have used the "Search" feature.

I bought a 6000k HID kit from AutoXen. The kit is great, the lights are great, and their customer service is top notch. But after I installed the kit I noticed just how out of whack the passenger headlight was aimed. Way too far to the right and too high. At first I thought one of the bulbs was too dim, or maybe the ballast didn't have enough juice, but nope, it was the aim.

I have spent the past FIVE nights tinkering, adjusting, turning...and still it is not right. It seems as though you have to turn the bolts about 1800 times before you get any noticeable difference.

I am about to give up. I may have OCD in this regard but I can't get it right.

Help.

Return it for another kit, and if that one doesn't work, just do without the kit... or drive around with the headlight beaming into the tree tops.. I don't think anyone will notice.

Try lining up the HID with the halogen bulb and see if the HID burner is in the same location as the halogen filament. Checkout member matoolie's HID install. He has a picture with the burner and filament line up. If the two don't line up the same, the rebase is the problem.

How was the beam with halogens before you upgraded to HID for the passenger side? Was it aimed correctly from the factory with the halogens? Was the halogens lighting up tree tops?

I ask because the '06 projectors have a funky light output. Normal headlights the beam output will slant down as you get further away from the headlight. It's easier to see when pulled up alongside a long wall. The 4Runner projector however, the beam slopes down, but at the very end it ramps up a bit. The headlights will be appeared to be aimed properly when you up behind a car and the cutoff is pretty much at their trunk line. But because it ramps up a bit, the combination of brighter HIDs and the odd output it causes many drivers to think you have high beams on. I've never been flashed at with halogens, but once I went to HIDs I've gotten flashed from time to time. I checked with another '06 member who upgraded to HIDs and we both have the same experience/issue.

I have never been flashed so far having my HID's... I aimed mine low enough not to blind oncoming traffic, but i agree on the funky light output, i was comparing mine with my wife's FX35 and you could see quite a bit of difference

I haven't re-aimed my headlights. But I partly it's due to the squirel finders that create extra light above the cutoff and the combination of the added brightness with HIDs causes oncoming traffic to flash.

That's true, i have a little extra light on top of my cutoff as well, and the factory alignment was way too high. (at least on mine it was)
