Headlight Beam Pattern - Normal or No??

Hmm,! I have a 96' model and it has the glass lenses on both sides and you state your 97 is plastic....do you know if mine are stock as the glass lenses?____
I bought it this way.

Is your recommended light bluish or basically the same as stock color except brighter?______
....I go out in the sonoran desert a lot and brighter would be better. I just don't like that bluish look

I should have clarified that.

All 3rd gen 4runners came with OEM glass lenses. Starting in (I think) 1999, they switched over to a clear glass instead of the older foggy/lined type glass lenses.

They are all interchangeable though.

As for the color, they are nice and white with no trace of blue. If you look directly at the lights from certain angles, you will see the slightest bit of blue, but nothing annoying or cheap looking. And again there is no trace of blue in the output — just bright white light.

You've been a great help, I really don't want to put roof lights up top and they look really bright and white

Not the best pics as the lights are sitting on a yellow backdrop so the light doesnt look as white as it really is, but I snapped these real quick tonight to give an idea of the beam pattern. You will notice the passenger is up higher, this works well with lighting up the shoulder where you need to see objects, yet the lights don't blind anyone.

First pic is low beams/second is high beams.

Forgot I had this pic — my daughter snapped a photo over my shoulder from the back seat on the way to the gas station about a week ago (think she liked the new GPS all lit up).

While the pic is a bit fuzzy, you can see the cutoff of the driver side headlight across the center line. The cutoff on the passenger side is much higher and really allows you to see things on the shoulder that might jump out into your path. I'm sure they would look even better with the 99+ headlight assemblies. I've had these bulbs for about a year & half and put about 40k on them without any issues.

These are the low beams.

In my opinion your set up perfectly with the pattern (High Beams are especially nice)
I did between 350 to 750 miles every day for many years. So this subject caught my eye.
Left beam dead straight slight to the right,out with no overcast into the oncoming traffic, right side fills in with a spot on the road but a flood like pattern out to the right and up some.
I'm impressed with the Lens brightness...thanks for the pic :)

The reason I went with the PIAA, is that I found out that the life expentancy of the bulb was way above most high performance bulb. If those phillips have this attribute too, they clearly look to be a good choice, since they are close to half the price for me on amazon.ca. I've put them on my wish list and will probably try them.

The PIAA was designed with life span in mind, they really last, and that's from my experience too. I could not find the phillips life expectancy.

So far so good, but I actually rarely use my headlights except for the middle of winter when the days are short.

The PIAA's are brighter than the ones I have, it says they run at 60 watts compared to the Phillips 55. I think you found a gem.
