headlight beams

The beam pattern in my 2007 4runner is off. The maintainence place told me this is how they are made. It is very distracting. My left headlight beam is lower and then the light line on the road makes a distint sharp cut up.
is this normal or are they just telling me this. I have taken it 3 times to have it adjusted. The light line looks like a stair case.

The right side is slightly higher right out of the factory.

Same issue on mine, its so you don't blind the oncoming guys who are driving compact cars low to the ground.

ReAim. It takes 10 minutes and philips screwdriver to aim correctly.

My headlights are like that to. I think it is best to leave them that way. Too high and you blind oncoming traffic. Don't want a head-on collision.

I actually read where that "raised spot" on the right side bucket is to illuminate road-signs and stuff on the side of the road. If you drive in a totally dark area.....IT WORKS.

If the aim is not to your liking, change it. Do so a little at a time until you are satisfied.

Unless your truck is lifted, they are as they should be. Projector HL have that sharp cutoff intentionally. They also have that step intentionally, as said, that's to keep the beam low for oncoming traffic, but to then raise it MOL from your centerline to the right. I'd have to agree that they are a little disconcerting to get used to, but projector-style are the best headlight design there is, as evidenced by their use on all high-end cars (lexii, audi, m-b etc).

I'm not certain, but I think the 4th Gen is Halogen projectors. Here's a pic of my HID projector retrofit against a wall. These are at the proper height, and the steps should overlap as shown.

You are correct...4th Generation has Halogen Projectors NOT HID Projectors. No Automaker will put in HID Projectors & NOT put in the bulbs.

You have a very clean retrofit...what projectors did you use?

I've only worked on TSX Projectors on a Lexus SC300.

Friend recently put FX-R Projectors on his Yamaha R6.

They're FX-R's, clear lenses, Philips 4300K. They rock. (my photography not so much)
