headlight bulb upgrade to the brighter more modern bulbs

can someone help me find the thread or just tell me which bulbs to use to upgrade the brightness of my oem 4r sport headlights

to be clear, i have the newer sport headlights already

there was a thread i read on here somewhere that said the brighter bulbs used in newer 4runners can be modified to fit by just trimming the tabs a little, and it makes the head lights much brighter without needing to switch to HID but i cant find it

its on the 5th gen forum but im not sure if its still the same oem bulbs as our 06-09 4runners use, i guess more research is needed

I went with Sylvania Silver Stars. They are a good compromise between cost, simplicity, brightness, and ease of maintenance.

I was unwilling to go LED or HID because of cost, reliability,and complexity.

same here which is why im trying to find that bulb swap info

the guy simply bought new type bulbs (made for the new toyotas i think)

and he said he just had to trim off the wide tabs smaller to fit our light hosing which made them simple plug in ready and you have brighter lights without doing anything else

yep, agreed ^^^^^

i tried them before and they dont last, think mine went out at around 4 months

I got 3-4 years out of my last set I believe.

When it’s snowing sideways up here In Wisconsin, I’m always happy to have that little extra bit of light output.

And I got a pair delivered for $18 from eBay this spring. So you can buy a lot of bulbs for what I’m seeing people doing these LED and HID upgrades for.

Plus I really like the color of the bulb in snow. Just a little bonus.
