Headlight Bulb

Has anybody installed these bulbs in their headlights https://www.eurodezigns.com/shop/detail.aspx?ID=79 ? It's a EuroDezign 9006 with 8500K rating. Also I saw one in a store near here that has the same rating of 8500K and made by NOKYA. Nokya claims the output power of their bulb is 100 watts. EuroDezigns offer lifetime warranty and claims their bulbs will not overheat the headlight wirings and are DOT approved. Stock headlight bulbs in the Runner are rated at 55 watts. I really want something brighter than stock but am worry these 8500K bulbs will melt something.

well with a 8500k rating you're almost into a purplish light, and your light output will be really decreased because of that. For the brightest light you want around 4500-5000k at the most.

I would be worried about a 100watt bulb, that is pretty hot.

Plus in my experience, all these over wattage bulbs are junk. They don't last at all, and you just end up putting the stock ones back in.

Your link shows a 6000K bulb with a lifetime warranty, I would be interested in a bright bulb with a lifetime warranty. I wonder how they honor it.

Most likely you have to pay shipping each time the bulb goes out.
So $7-$10 every 3-4 months, then have to wait 2-3 weeks to get your new bulb. Right about the time the other side goes out (lol)

Before the I got the Silverstars, I put a pair of PIAA Star White 3800K 51W-->100W in my LB housing. After being on for about 30 minutes they got hot enough to burn the reflective coating on the top of the parabolic reflectors.

I'd be really careful about putting extra-bright bulbs in that are rated at this high wattage. I also noticed some burning of the wire harness.

It was like this on both headlights. Notice the dull spot above the light itself. This did not noticibly degrade my beam pattern however, because the top of the housing reflects closest to the vehicle, a spot my fog/driving lights illuminate.

yep, i installed them in january, and love them. When there off they look blueish in the headlights and when there on their a hyper white a tiny blueish/xenon look to it. Havent had an issue with heat either. and i got them off ebay for like $10 i figured i couldnt really go wrong and they turned out great.

After doing more research, the NOKYA 8500K 100 watt bulbs will not last that long and definitely burn the housing (if not the wiring) that is why they are mostly used on SHOW vehicles. The EuroDezigns 9006 are still 55 watts and somewhere in their website there was a note that says BLUE bulbs are now 8500K. And lastly, the higher the Calvin rating (i.e. 8500K) the more bluish the light is going to be and the less projection. Inversely, the lower the Calvin rating (i.e. 4000K) the more yellow the light is but more projection. EuroDezigns do offer Lifetime warranty but you have to mail your bulbs with $6.00. I will order a pair and will post the result. Thanks.

If you're looking for a basic bulb upgrade, don't go too extreme with the 6000k and up kelvin ratings. All you're doing is increasing the amount of blue in the light output, not necessarily the brightness or intensity. Also, as you and others mentioned, too high of a wattage will discolor your headlamp housings.

In the car I just sold (03 Acura RSX), I had a pair of PIAA "Extreme White Plus" bulbs and was very happy with them. They are rated at 4000k and draw 35 watts, so there was no issue with too much draw or discoloring the headlamp housing. The bulb was a bright white with a slight tint of blue (no yellow like stock), and lit up the road well. Of course, although these bulbs simulate the color of HID, they can't replicate the light output. That said, for an upgrade from stock halogen bulbs, they are great.

They may be a little more expensive than other options (Nokya, Sylvania silverstars, etc.), but mine didn't burn out like some of the cheaper offerings. I checked and they're $75 at tirerack.com for the 9006 low beams. I got mine for cheaper, but that's about the most you'll spend on them.

I am sure the bulbs by PIAA and some others mentioned are good bulbs.

With that said. Silverstars are an easily acessible upgrade. They are 4000k. I have replaced all six bulbs upfront with them. They are bright white with a slight hint of blue. Far more light output than stock.

They can be found in any wally world or auto parts store for $35-40 a set.

OR I got all mine off ebay. 6 sets total for 3 different vehicles. With shipping I got most of them from $26-$30.

The nice thing is even if one burns out on a Sunday night you can run to the local store and pick up a replacement.

Some posts mention bulb life issues. I have not had any problem with them lasting less than a year. Some here have gotten 2 years out of them. Happy :driving:
